"How dreary – to be – Somebody!
How public – like a Frog" - Emily Dickenson
First Christmas with my first boyfriend, I planned with my bf to sneak his mom's favorite candy into the stockings, after I found out that stockings worked by her always doing it all. It was a small thing, but the look on her face when she saw the extra candy was awesome. Make your own magic.

Also, technically you should not use that term either as it discusses internal psychology that may not apply. Just use terms that refer to actions like "child molester" or "child rapist". Those terms apply to children of all stages of development and regardless of the abuser's preferences.

My first thought was the world would end, but I think the answer is chess. I do not like chess, and I am very bad at it. But if I needed to become a pro chess player to save the world, and I had years to practice, it's the best chance we'd have. And I think chess technically is considered a sport.

Woah... abnormal blood vessel growth in the retina is what took away most of my vision in my left eye. This probably would not have helped me for complex reasons, but helping with the slower version of this problem is amazing. Demonstrates how awful the US is for being anti health care and research.

This is a fair and good point. But the A in DARVO stands for Attack. Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender. And it is extremely common among all sorts of abusers, so very good to understand and pay attention to. The more you can spot DARVO, the more you can spot people acting in bad faith.

Although in fairness to my school, I did only go three to four days a week. But usually they told me what I missed during my absences. My health was really bad when I was in high school. I suppose it's possible I missed day they explained how to write a paper.

My high school assigned several research papers, but didn't teach us how to write them. I didn't learn about a thesis statement until my older brother was helping me edit a paper I wrote. I just had a paper of - this is stuff I found out and wrote down with references.

Old radio shows. I have vague memories of The Shadow, The Thin Man, and The Fat Man.

This post was a weird way to find out that Robert Redford died.

I was poor and sick and could not afford cable (or streaming had it existed). I had a box set of Sports Night and little ability to do much but lie around and watch TV. I have seen every single episode many, many times. If you have to be stranded with just one show, it's one of the better options.

Or walked past the unsupervised and unmonitored cigarette vending machine as you enter a restaurant. Ah the good ol' <cough> <cough> days.

The moon during the day is no big deal. But seeing the sun at night is a completely different story. (e.g. "The Walrus and the Carpenter")

I wonder if you can rub some of the salt off to make them better. I used to de-salt my pretzels before I ate them, because I do not like the taste of salt.

In psych class, I was taught that volunteering was the most underused depression treatment, even though there was good evidence that it helps many people. It won't be a reasonable option for everyone, but it definitely should be more common.

Jaboticabas are plants that have polyembryonic seeds. They engage in both sexual and asexual reproduction at the same time. Jaboticabas grow fruits directly off their trunks. While unrelated to grapes, the fruits are supposed to be reminiscent of them, but with a creamy/yogurtiness to them as well.

A foreshortened sense of the future is a cPTSD/PTSD symptom. I'm not surprised many people have it, given how common trauma is. (Not everyone will develop that symptom, but trauma can cause it.) I imagine this is part of how trauma helps to create trauma, since people don't work towards the future.

I firmly believe that if you aren't old enough to see such content, then you aren't old enough to have unsupervised internet access. And yes, older kids will find workarounds, just as they did in my childhood. Although back then it might have been someone's dirty magazines. That's okay.

Oh. I haven't done surveys or anything. I just read about people writing mirror-reversed with their non-dominant hand. And that people often find that easier than writing normally. But I haven't tested it, and it doesn't work that way for me. I expect most people don't bother to try to do either.

It is common for people to be able to mirror-write with their non-dominant hand, which I find fascinating. I can write with either hand, but I cannot mirror-write with either hand. Whatever other brains do, mine doesn't seem to be doing that.
