The fourth and final in Tim Shipman’s Brexit odyssey has landed today. Funny, well informed and a thoroughly decent chap, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the first two volumes of Shipman’s work. I suspect the third and fourth volumes will revive all the frustrations! 🤣 🇬🇧 🇪🇺 📚

My views on Lord George Sackville are entirely negative as some of you know. I now have a copy of the proceedings of his Court Martial. Drummed out of the army in disgrace who would go on to set policy in North America during the Revolution. *shakes head in disgust* 📚 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 #histbookchat

It’s not just all books and computer games here. I love a good boardgame so I’ve gotten two more: No Peace Without Spain (Spanish Succession) and Bayonets & Tomahawks (French & Indian). #boardgames

The Master of Command playthrough has ended with Europe painted red! Although most of the victorious British Army was German. Bet that's never happened before... Now to try the Austrians. #masterofcommand

More serious 18th century content. This time it’s the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth! Why is everyone marching through their country? How? Why are they getting carved up? 📚 🇵🇱 🇱🇹 #histbookchat

Reluctantly back in an Oxfam book shop and picked this up yesterday. It’s not enough to spend half the night playing Masters of Command on my PC. I’m slipping back into thinking about painting miniatures again… 📚 #histbookchat

More American Revolt 😉 content. This one landed in yesterday I understand it looks at the revolution in the context of all the colonies, including the many that didn’t join the 13 in rebellion. 👍 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 📚 #histbookchat

What is it with politicians/statesmen and their obsession with the Congress of Vienna? Do they all have FOMO? These are Harold Nicolson’s thoughts (diplomat who handed the British FWW declaration of war to the German ambassador and minister in Churchill’s SWW government). #histbookchat

Thank god for Ken Trotman publishing. Copies of Fitzgerald Ross’ work (an Englishman in the Austrian cavalry observing the Civil War) are ludicrously expensive, but I came upon this Trotman reprint in a charity shop. Huzzah! 📚 🇦🇹 🇺🇸 #histbookchat
