academic, knitter, neo-Victorian convalescent
That was also the era when Kathryn Hume's Surviving Your Academic Job Hunt came out.

It would be hard to overstate the amount of trauma this book inflicted on a generation of new PhDs.

Remember the celebration in the UK when Margaret Thatcher died? That, but supersized and global.

I'm having trouble finding a suitable picture of myself for my faculty profile. Do you think this picture of an Elvis Presley planter would work instead?

Me: ADHD isn't stigmatized like it used to be.

British documentarians: People with ADHD, like one-testicled micro-penised genocidal maniac Adolf Hitler...

People who think that the military loves Trump are not listening to what actual service members and veterans are saying.

And don't forget Trump and Hegseth gathered every top general in the military into a single room to call them fat and hairy less than six weeks ago.

When I think of 90s politics, the first thing that comes to mind is this image.

This picture is from about an hour ago. The debris field is huge, and it hit a lot of cars, container trucks, and structures/buildings of some sort on the ground.

Apparently, the plane was carrying 38,000 gallons [280,000 pounds] of fuel, enough to fly straight from Louisville to Honolulu.

The Muhammad Ali airport is right in the middle of the city and immediately off one of Louisville's biggest highways. The crash happened during rush hour. This is a pic my sister took on her way home from work.

Look out the windows. The sun set, but you can still see the plume because it's solid black against the night sky and blocking out the city's light pollution. You can't see the moon or stars.

It looks like the apocalypse or something out of Cormac McCarthy's The Road.

Cause of crash is unknown. It looks like one side of the plane caught fire before it hit the ground and exploded during takeoff.

Nonetheless, it's worth mentioning air traffic controllers are currently being forced to work without pay during the government shutdown.

My partner saw a giant black plume drifting over our neighborhood here in Louisville. Five minutes later, a shelter-in-place warning went off on our phones.

A UPS cargo plane crashed. At least 3 people are dead, if not more. The air smells horrible, and big pieces of ash are falling in my yard.

Someone posted this pic to show how 80s and 90s decor was brown and wooden.

My partner got that GE alarm clock as a kid about 40 years ago, and we still use it every night. That bitch was built to last.

Trump is cutting off SNAP benefits that feed 40 million people in five days.

Appropos of nothing, here's a picture of a breadline in Louisville, Kentucky during the Great Depression.

I teach "At a Station of the Metro" nearly every semester, and I spend a lot of time talking about how awful he was. Like, his friend made a statue of him that is a giant dick.

It seems like everywhere I look, people are knitting the Clematis cardigan or PetiteKnit's version of it. I really, really, really hate it. It's not my style at all.

Except that the more I see it, the more I want to make it, because reasons ????? I think it's contagious.
