Inequalities by deprivation have widened and ethnic inequalities also remain stark. If these are not addressed, health problems in children can become more established in adulthood. While current plans such as restrictions on junk food ads and energy drinks, will go some way in reducing child obesity, more radical measures must be considered given the scale of the challenge. Health measures alone will not solve the problem. The Labour government’s health mission committed to a fairer Britian where everyone lives well for longer. Tackling obesity and widening health inequalities demands urgent cross-government action to tackle the societal drivers of poor health.'
