And can we appreciate for a moment what a brilliantly awesome name "Vermithrax Pejorative" is? Not only does it sound impressive but the meaning ...

"Worm of Thrace that Makes Things Worse"

Fantastic movie. Feels lost & underappreciated; practically forgotten by the zeitgeist yrs after it launched

If you love that delay / distraction technique, then you should love the scene in Carpenter’s “The Fog” where they’re investigating the abandoned boat & something unexpected happens, almost exactly like this in the Thing ...

If you know the movie you KNOW that scene! Carpenter at his best.

Democratic VOTERS want new leadership.

What the current crew want to do with their retirement is entirely up to them.

Putin should ask to be invited to Kyiv for the peace talks...

I'll wager it's as close to being there as he'll ever get.

Slava, you glorious bastards you-

Microsoft / Google's never-ending quest to homogenize the English language into something only Tarzan could appreciate.

Like an orchid of the finest blue, the dotting carrying that energy of the moment 'out' to fill the whole space, or possibly in suggestion of the sky as reflected in its petals but i prefer the former.

Probably a combination of selective polishing, shading, and careful contouring to create an optical illusion of transparency to trick the mind into 'assuming' that which isn't there.

Like with the stone "veils" other people posted. They're just thin lines to imply cloth; your mind assumes the rest.

Remember that the car itself was considered an existential threat by many when it first debuted. It would scare horses! Terrify pedestrians! and lead the youth into Crimes of a deviant nature! 😧

Not all those concerns were unfounded but on balance it proved its worth

EVs are different, not drastic

What if the car breaks? 🛠️
What if an accident or flooding has closed the road? 🛶
What if it snows? ❄️

What if, indeed? 🛸

Tech gets adopted when it offers something new or does something better than what it did before. You can always find a reason to neg but how does it balance in the end? ⚖️

I mean, your average daily driver / commuter might legit be able to go 3, 4, even 6 months without ever having to hook into a public station for a DC-charge & having to deal with the "inconvenience" of a 20-minute wait. In that context, refueling in public almost becomes ... an alien experience. 🛸
January 28, 2026 at 8:00 AM
Personally, i think the industry has done a crap job of educating the general public on the real pros & cons, relying on early adopter fever to drive sales- ie, people who do all the heavy legwork to self-educate solo. If their Marketing Depts had any brains they’d tackle the miscons head-on.

Certainly, it is different. You gotta learn a little different & plan a little different. You gotta THINK a little different. And yeah, it can be a little intimidating, especially at the start. But once you get over that learning curve it’s not nearly as restrictive as a person might fear.

3rd, you typically only need to recharge “on-the-go” if you’re traveling long distances, & if you do that on the regular then a hybrid is a great way to go, but-

4th, you can charge at home. Depending on your setup that’s 3-9 hours. That can support a daily commute of 180 miles for, like, $6.

Well ... it doesn’t really matter if you can refuel in 20 seconds or 20 minutes if the car’s $60K & your budget is a hopeful $30-35K.

2nd, charging at a DC station only takes 10-20 minutes, which sounds longer than it is – especially in the age of the smart phone (scroll, scroll, scroll...)

Look at it this way:

If there was a demand there, why wait 'til now to ship? ...

As with Russia in Ukraine,
so as the Fash in America.
January 28, 2026 at 4:58 AM
Yes, but in a very cute and charming way that was, for many years, the production's calling-card!
January 28, 2026 at 4:56 AM
Right. We need fish-people, yeah? And they gotta be genuine, sort of scaley and the like, like people expect, yeah? But after sets we've only got 50 quid to spare, so take the lot, and, uh, go make some magic happen.

I want to be CONVINCED, Reginald!

So, funny story - if you read the article they do mention diesels and ..

they're dying. Diesel sales have tanked. EVs passed them in 2023. Hybrids are currently #1 but EVs are hot on their heels.

Change can be like that: ages of static nothingness and then, suddenly, everything all at once.
January 28, 2026 at 4:32 AM
... and the fact they thought so little of their neighbors is very, very telling on them.
