For example, modeling studies suggest that the abundant Carboniferous and Permian swamps may have produced more methane (85), which could help offset the lower CO2 and solar forcing during the LPIA. Future work modeling the impact of trace greenhouse gas concentrations and constraining the evolution of albedo across the Phanerozoic will help elucidate the role of non-CO2 forcing factors and why they appear to be canceled out such that CO2 is so strongly correlated with GMST. There is a strong relationship between PhanDA GMST and CO2, indicating that CO2 is the dominant control on Phanerozoic climate. The consistency of this relationship is surprising because on this timescale, we expect solar luminosity to influence climate. We hypothesize that changes in planetary albedo and other greenhouse gases (e.g., methane) helped compensate for the increasing solar luminosity through time. The GMST-CO2 relationship indicates a notably constant “apparent” Earth system sensitivity (i.e., the temperature response to a doubling of CO2, including fast and slow feedbacks) of ∼8°C, with no detectable dependence on whether the climate is warm or cold. Fast opinion (will be reading that article too: registration done, authentication done, background ok to read, ty), I see two sets of charts, same period 800,000 years, similar periodicity, w/ CO2 spiking up 2x and methane spiking up 4x, in the last few millennia of data. Methane looks more scary.
Goalie stick "lie" shown. Not as sharp as the charts show the "hockey stick" effect attributed to Dr Michael Mann. The sticks in the two charts in question in the thread, are much more pronounced than any hockey stick, more akin to a carpenters square.

I don't suppose methane levels matter much? The last 8 1/2 decades do not seem too alarming on their own but on a geologic scale?

Doing some research, ends up Canadian beef is covered under CUSMA aka USMCA and not tariffed now. Ditto Mexico for now. But ...not Australia, Brazil, New Zealand ... Going to be a beef by consumers in the US ... no matter how u slice it ... :D

The US needs "imports" to make lean ground beef as their stuff is too fatty. They have a trade deficit in beef, and a new record low herd size from 1951. With tariffs on imports, their consumers are going to try to eat beef but at much higher prices. Bottom 80% of Americans are CPI fk'd.

According to USDA projections and trade reports for 2025: U.S. beef exports (2025): 2.7 billion pounds, down almost 10% from the previous year. U.S. beef imports (2025): 5.18 billion pounds, up nearly 12% year over year. This results in a beef trade deficit of about 2.5 billion pounds (imports minus exports). The deficit is expected to remain wide due to lower U.S. beef production, high domestic demand for lean beef, and continued strong imports from countries like Australia and Brazil.

NOTE: Terms in bold are defined in the Inflation Update Glossary. The headline, or all-items, PCE price index rose an annualized 4.2 percent in January after rising an annualized 4.5 percent in December. The price index for PCE excluding food and energy rose at a 3.1 percent annualized rate after rising an annualized 3.7 percent a month earlier. Prices for energy goods and services as a whole were up sharply, reflecting a steep increase in the price index for gasoline and other motor fuel. Food prices were down for the month.
