Since I lost No Noël November so shamefully early this year, I decided to do No Shave November again. And once again, I seem to have deceived myself into thinking I can grow a beard without it coming in patchy and unbalanced (I can't).

And it worked! Three years after Walt Disney's death in 1966, Fantasia finally became a hit and made back its budget, faring especially well with teenagers and college students who saw it as a psychedelic experience. (This was also the re-release on which my young dad saw it as a child.)

Unfortunately for Disney, the century took a while to cotton to “Fantasia.” The combination of wartime anxieties and the prohibitive cost of hauling the film’s customized Fantasound system — an early shot at what became Dolby — made it hard for the picture to find its audience.
“It never really got to play to its full potential,” Johnston [animator Ollie Johnston] says. “People were concerned then with Hitler. The mood of the public wasn’t really right.”
By the 1960s, however, the public was right for what youthful audiences perceived as a mind-expanding event.

And apparently someone at Disney caught on to this and was like, "Hey, don't WE already have a psychedelic experimental art film?"
So they re-released Fantasia in 1969 with this poster, which... yeah, made it VERY clear about who this re-release was aimed towards.

However, the 1960s were a different story. Colorful, psychedelic art like the works of Peter Max started becoming popular with the hippie generation and appearing at be-ins, and this style manifested in animation such as Yellow Submarine (1968).
