After earning his PhD, Charles Wallace was eager to apply his research skills outside of academia. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Gulf Research Program Fellowship provided him with the perfect opportunity—gaining hands-on policy experience in coastal resilience.

She worked at RESTORE Council in New Orleans under the mentorship of Alyssa Dausman, now the Chief Scientist at The Water Institute. Jessica later became a mentor herself.

Hurricanes are often seen as destructive forces, but for wetlands, they can provide essential sediment and nutrients, helping vertical growth. A study modeled Hurricane Gustav (2008) near Terrebonne Bay, LA, to explore how storm factors impact sediment transfer. Read it here: lnkd.in/gkjca6eW

The Water Institute met with project partners from USM, DOI, CPRA and NOAA at the Chandeleur Islands for continuing research to inform planning, monitoring, implementation and adaptive management of the est. $350 million barrier island restoration.
