Enjoyer of motion pictures, motor vehicles, and based ball. Limey-Canuck dual passport wielder. Uncommonly cheerful for a Gen X'er, unless you insist on spelling SEVEN as SE7EN, in which case I wish upon you many Biblical plagues.
Evergreen content.

"Incurious" is both the most accurate and the most damning description. Ignorance can be corrected but willful ignorance is a disease nearly impossible to cure, and we have a truly frightening number of incurious people bopping around.

It's the world that got less dapper, Joe.

"...about how he feels", even.

Coolest guy on TV at the time. Even the way he said "Spenser" ("SpenSAH") ruled.

Former Expo. I remember them all as heroes.

My litmus test for evil is simple: Do I believe there is an above-average likelihood the filmmaker is getting off on what they are depicting. Then it's a matter of reckoning with just how heinous what they're depicting is.

The rundown plaza in which We Cut Heads was found saw the fire department roll out occasionally when a Lincoln Town Car would burn down to the tires on a busy Saturday afternoon, something my brother and I were 100% certain was at least Joe-adjacent. Joe rolled a late 1970s Caddy, because of course.

My brother and I paid homage to one of Spike Lee's student films by referring to his barbershop exclusively as Joe Gallo's We Cut Heads, a place where a typically excellent haircut might be enlivened by Joe losing his shit and cursing in Italian because he was losing his balls on the World Cup.

Funny enough, although the screenwriter is George Gallo, Joe Gallo was the name of my old barber back in the day, just the most Olde Worlde Italian dude on the planet, who not very covertly ran a bookie operation on the side out of his shop, his ledger of wagers right there next to the Barbicide.

Fuck yes. I will ride into Hell secure in my belief that WISE GUYS rips. Not many movies make me laugh more.

JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY is very funny and deserves more of a reputation.

I remember when they were ten to fifteen grand all day. Rare to see one with Boxer two-tone trim.

The suavest motherfucker on MTV back in the day. Made Rico Tubbs on "Miami Vice" look like an unhoused gentleman.

I'm not big on him as a director---not because I think he's useless, but rather that he's good at something I don't much care for---but yeah, he was a pretty interesting young screenwriter. I think Spielberg gave him a go at writing one of the Indiana Jones sequels, too.

So, we dug in. At first, it's just hormonal overload for a bunch of fifteen year olds, as you'd expect. But by three a.m., we're all draped over the rec room furniture in uncomfortable positions, reading the articles. "Hey, listen to what Oliver North said about financing covert operations..."

The porn mags were stacked like bundled old newspapers in a hoarder's hovel, on the rec room coffee table, on top of and beside the downstairs powder room toilet, everywhere. Then one night Pete showed us the Holy Grail: A giant steamer trunk in the master bedroom closet absolutely full of porn mags

True story in two parts: When I was a teenage reprobate, my degenerate friends and I would spend most Friday and Saturday nights at my friend Pete's house, his house chosen because his sleazy stepdad had a very expensive & dead loud stereo + a suitable collection of classic rock albums. And...porn.

The detour it takes at the end reminded me of the turn "The Getaway" makes down its back stretch, which I have to say, neither of the two film adaptations (both of which I like, for the record) prepared me for. "Oh, I see, they decided not to end the movies by pretty much *going to fucking Hell*!"

Speaking of Steven Bochco, I've been rewatching "Hill Street Blues" on Disney+. They were really pushing the envelope for network TV back then, language wise. Dennis Franz rolled into one episode and dropped an F slur on one of the regulars before beating the shit out of him.

James Foley hit and missed but when he hit (GGR, AT CLOSE RANGE), man, he fucking nailed it.
