It's a legitimized mispronunciation of the word 'dug', as in the past tense of 'dig' which reflects a reality all dogs are immersed in, all proudly believing they have just successfully dug. Its a polite way for dogs to greet each other, (e.g. "Hello, dug!") and so became associated with the species

Watched the whole thing and I think the most disturbing and remarkable moment was when the fascist dismissed concerns about oppression because he believed he would be part of the in-group.
