For so many of us that downtown Neiman Marcus store was a place to celebrate engagements, birthdays, professional victories, all the things. Might have drowned a few sorrows, too.

Breaking: Neiman Marcus is closing its downtown store after more than 100 years in the core of the city.

The storied site on Main Street will shutter effective March 31, according to a statement from Saks Global, the new owner of Neiman Marcus.

The Detroit Lions' tradition of playing on Thanksgiving Day started in 1934 when ownership thought a Thanksgiving Day matchup might draw more than the 12,000 fans it normally drew for a Sunday game.

The idea worked.

25,000 fans saw the Lions lose 19-16 to the Bears on November 29, 1934
