Some of these are absolutely wild. The last one in particular is so many levels of holy shit.

Casper Milquetoast is sitting at a desk with an old timey phone on it. He looks despondent at it. He says, "No use denying it - I'm a flat failure. Everything I've tried has failed! I ought to blow my brains out." Two professional looking men stand off to one side in the back looking at him. First man says, "Poor ol' boy! I feel sorry for 'im." Second man responds, "Yep. I guess he's through."

Casper Millquetoast is at the barber, leaning back covered in a barber arpon and shaving cream over his lower face. A big barber with hairy arms holding a a shaving blade above Mr. Milquetoast. The barber asks, "How ya goin' t' vote this comin' election? Huh?" Mr. Milquetoast responds, "Why -uh-er- I don't get a vote. I've been in prison- stir I mean- and I've lost my citizenship."

Casper Milquetoast drops several packages and an umbrella when confronted by a man pointed at him in a fedora and smoking a pipe. The man says, "Casper, I notice you occasionally ride to town with that communist chap. As a fellow-traveler I suppose you've learned a lot about his theories." Mr. Milquetoast responds, "Er-uh- But I'm NOT a fellow-traveler! I'm a conservative!" The caption in the bottom corner reads: Mr. Milquetoast knows the sinister meaning of the term.

Casper Milquetoast is in his home dressed in a vest and tie, no jacket. H is with presumably with a woman who is his wife who is dressed in a floral dress and has her hair tied up. She is digging through the top drawer of a dresser. She asks him, "Oh Casper. Here's that lovely swastika stickpin I gave you years ago. Why don't you wear it?" Mr. Milquetoast responds, "Why-uh-er-ah-hmm-m-m-" The caption in the bottom corner reads: Mr. Milquetoast never wears jewelry.

Decided to look up the word milquetoast for reasons that have no escaped me. Did you know it only goes back to like the 1930s? And that it was named after a comic strip character you've never heard of? Meet Casper Milquetoast.

A heavy set man in a coat with a snow shovel confronts Casper Milquetoast from the snow covered sidewalk. "Shovelin' Off Yer Walk Yerself, Huh?" Mr. Milquetoast waffles, "Er-uh-why-ah-Yes-You see I-er-That is-uh- I dropped a quarter somewhere between the gate and the front door and I thought I'd better look for it. If you care to finish shoveling off the walk for a dollar I'd be glad to have you..." A caption in the corner reads, "Mr. Milquetoast does some quick thinking."

Casper Milquetoast looks at a ground level billboard reading "Watch This Space!" in very large lettering. He comments to himself, "Well, really. If something doesn't occur pretty soon I shall have to leave."

Casper Milquetoast stands bunched up in hat and coat on a city sidewalk in a torrential downpour, other pedestrians with umbrellas hurrying along in the background. He says to himself, "Well, I'll wait one more hour for him and if he doesn't come than he can go and borrow that $100 from someone else."

Casper Milquetoast sits in a large comfy chair in his home, holding a newspaper to one side. He looks straight at the reader. The caption at the bottom reads, "While wading through the second instalment of a tiersome serial. Mr. Milquetoast suddenly realizes that there is no town, state or federal law compelling him to finish it." Mr. Milquetoast seemingly responds to the caption, "Why, I can just throw it away!"

I have a lot of opinions about how the comics have treated Spider-Gwen (most of them not good), but damn if this panel from issue 1 of the most recent series just hits the character hard and is just gorgeous to boot.
