There is simply no excuse for the MTA to not be ordering walk-through open gangway trains anymore, and the fact that they are so reticent is baffling.

Always great to talk to @davecolon.bsky.social

Also, always good to see the holiday trains!

New Metro-North Charger locomotive in Grand Central... on the wrong side of the train!?

Love this welding mask I caught on the train. You don't see enough woman ironworkers.

I appreciate the little side LCDs in Ottawa, but they'd be far more useful if they were at every door

And of course, @rmtransit.bsky.social is in The Star today with a very thoughtful piece that I hadn't seen before writing this thread.

I think this is the crux of the recent debate brought up by the Finch LRT in Toronto.

It's led to some interesting but to me confusing conversations that I think need some grounding:

Great piece by @chittimarco.bsky.social on the proper role of trams in cities and how to evaluate them.

I particularly appreciate his very clear typology that I think helps make systems more or less comparable.

Here, have a view of downtown from the western peninsula (like a 40min drive from downtown).

I have found it, the most angsty teenage village in all of Laos.

I'm not sure if I picked the best or the worst day to head up to Walkway Over the Hudson.

Wind = very cold.

What the hell!? This is making the NY region look sensible. Almost.

I mean, if no other agency's accept OMNY, at least there aren't stupid issues...

What, it couldn't have been that bad, right?

I was curious to learn more and, well, I found the first Google result humorous.

Very good piece that covers the basics well. We don't know what we want from public outreach, and we've forgotten (if we ever knew) how to weigh it against democratic legitimacy.

That said, I'm skeptical that the process can easily be transformed into a fact-focused one—even if I'd prefer that too.

Also on the committee.

Oh dear, those might be some fun meetings...

Amazing resources showing maps of municipal fragmentation in the US, and its (often dramatic) fiscal effects.

Some images I hadn't seen others share. Texas I thought might be different for having long allowed forced annexation, but not really.

The Detroit metro is what you'd expect.
