It is inevitable that as data sets grew tall, abstraction layers obscured, that humans need novelty to parse such quantities of information. but the death of understanding and feeling art, of wanting to grasp, to sing, and paint is so entrenched in this entitlement.

Perhaps the music at cirque would sound even more thrilling, more novel if it didn’t have to rely on ghostly samples. but the composition of those samples remains the same, the performances preserved in amber while humans still perform its most fundamental and human driven elements

All of this to say: when I watch an AI generated video, I feel nothing. The machine can create all sorts of surreal imagery from the most pedestrian prompts, and as the photons dance across the eyes, it lacks all of the pathos, the yearning, the texture, the risks that I felt at Cirque.

My friend Carlos and I climbed up to the rafters to look at the speaker array; at one time the largest collection of subwoofers on the strip and an audio engineering marvel in 1993. We checked out his percussion rig, a blend of world instruments still performed live to match the dancers.

These ladies all talk like my mom and her friends. It’s real endearing and their accent is so pronounced! I couldn’t distinct it for years until I moved to Manhattan Chinatown where most folks are from the mainland
