Remember! “Bad” is NOT a useful adjective when applied to behavior. Behavior itself isn’t inherently good or bad - it’s simply a form of communication. It’s really our responsibility to guide our dogs by teaching them the behaviors we’d like to see!

What are the biggest changes you expect or would like to see in the fields of dog training/behavior and welfare over the next 10 years? A larger general knowledge of body language and a dog’s level of comfort and consent being accounted for are my big hope!

Dogs are amazing. We’ve coevolved with dogs longer than we’ve had beer! And beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy (true statement, but falsely attributed Ben Franklin quote). Isn’t that amazing!

Blind obedience is outdated. Earning enthusiasm is the future. Train with joy, not force, and watch your dog eagerly choose to engage. Compliance is the past; cooperation is the goal. 🐾 #DogNerd #RPlusTraining #DogLovers #Dogs #DogSky

Commands demand obedience, while cues invite cooperation with rewards. Train with cues and see your dog joyfully choose to engage. 💛 #DogNerd #PositiveReinforcement #DogTraining #WordsMatter #Dogs #Dogsky

Differential reinforcement of other behavior (DRO) is widely misunderstood in dog training as "reinforcing any acceptable behavior" when in fact it's reinforcement delivered contingent on the passage of time without unwanted behavior. A brief explainer: kikiyablondogtraining.com/kiki-blog/20...

The most common question I get: 'How do I stop x behavior?'

My answer: 'What would you rather they do instead?

Training with corrections can frustrate both dog and owner—and takes time from what matters: learning, growing, and having fun together.

Train with 'YES!'. You'll both be happier for it!
