It's a little known fact that cows start off with bones, but they will slowly deplete as they give milk, the calcium being leeched into the milk. Once a cow is out of or nearly out of bones, it will be sold for meat. Hence the existence of boneless steaks.

As long as it's not swelling excessively and you think it's not broken then you probably don't have to go. I'd recommend an ice pack to reduce swelling. But, like, as ever, if it doesn't seem to get better you should seek treatment.
