In the past few years we've created a pro bono scheme to improve access to legal aid for individuals in the Caribbean taking their appeals to the Privy Council.

We have built a network of law firms and produced practical resources to help firms navigate Privy Council procedures.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk said: “In total, nearly 3,000 death row inmates in [ADF] countries are often held in inhumane conditions without access to legal aid. They may live in solitary confinement for years, chained by fear, uncertainty & intolerable psychological torment."

The study uncovers that, despite a suspension in executions, death row populations are often maintained in ADF states. As is common in retentionist states, this means people on death row can experience poor conditions & severe psychological distress, which can amount to ‘death row phenomenon’.
