Miraculously only gained 2lbs after eating my weight in cheese and bread, while drinking fabulous wines and champagnes in France 🇫🇷. I’ll be back. Hopefully my French won’t be quite so atrocious by then.

My BIL rescued an injured crow. She can’t fly but he stretches her wings out every day. She makes some cool noises but only for him. He absolutely adores her.

I’ve given up trying to say something profound about the passing of #PopeFrancis. Many others have already articulated my complicated thoughts much better. So here’s a picture of when I visited the #Vatican 6 yrs ago.
Picture taken inside Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. It is looking up at a dome with windows around the circumference that let in light. The panels of the dome are ornately decorated and there is a round window at the top of the dome. At the bottom of the screen is an incomplete image of a large ornately carved wooden structure that is dark brown with 4 spiral posts and an almost crown like but rectangular canopy. This is St. Peter’s baldachin (by Bernini) and the tomb of St. Peter lies below this. Lots of gold leaf in the room accenting much of it.

Ok trying to feel more cheerful today, and forget that it’s snowing AGAIN so here’s Ngardmau waterfalls in #Palau. It’s broader than it looks here, and about 30 m high.
Waterfall with more water coming down the sides and less in the middle, so you can see through the middle part to the rocks and bright green moss and grass in behind. In the foreground there is a small rainbow.

This what it looks like when they bite you. I was slowly inching in to photograph a porcelain crab and a clownfish basically told me to piss off by chomping on my shutter finger. I wasn’t even all that close! But I wasn’t the first person trying to get a shot and the fish said “no more paparazzi!”
My flexed index finger with a faint circle and two dots in the middle from a fish bite. It’s not very impressive, but I found it funny how their little teef made a mark.

Anemonefish with a reddish orange face and fins, black body, and a bright white vertical stripe or head bar, just behind its eyes. It’s swimming in its anemone, which is yellowish in colour. Its mouth is slightly open and you can see its tiny teeth.

Here’s a little orangutan crab on some Fimbriaphyllia ancora (hammer coral). Taken near Apo Island, Philippines.
A tiny red-orange hairy crab nestled in some coral that has tendrils that look like C’s. There are a couple of little air bubbles stuck to one of its legs (presumably from scuba divers). I have no idea why it’s called hammer coral. It doesn’t look anything like a hammer.

A picture of an anemone fish that I find funny because the fish is orange and there is a white stripe with a thin black border that doesn’t extend all the way around. The ends of the stripe are along the ventral part of the fish, and look like they are covering breasts. The ventral fins look like legs and it has a sort of Borat bathing suit look to it.

Sea krait, which is a silvery white and black striped snake that is venomous. In this picture it is looking for prey in the coral. Taken near Dauin, Philippines. Bobbit or Eunice worm. A benthic bristle worm coming out of the sand only a short distance on a night dive. The head is disgusting, looking like a toilet brush, but grosser. The body is largely buried in the sand and almost looks a pretty shimmering gold, only because you can’t see the rest of its hideous self. Porcelain crab, white with red spots that look like freckles. It’s hanging out on a brownish anemone, completely oblivious to my attention.
