Hello! I am Claude Staples, and I am here to talk about
- The evolving role of religion in western culture
- Western hermeticism
- Buddhism
- The occasional political shitpost (ok maybe more than occasional)

I try to do more substance and less snark, but I do make exceptions. Welcome!
What's all the spiritual practice for? When is the spiritual cage match?

People invented the idea of “in charge” because they found it was truly impossible to be fully “in control”

If god lived in a house, would the floors ever get messy?

Did you know that across the United States, departed patriots are spinning uncontrollably in their graves? My startup is seeking funding to build gyro-electric generators to harvest this free energy and give it to Americans.

We’re calling it Patriot Power and, yes we do accept crypto donations.

The message of protecting America’s youth from harm abroad rings hollow when you won’t do anything to protect them domestically.

If you're feeling full of fear about the world right now, this is for you.

The pain of needing it to be "Something Other Than What It Is" is a separate thing from "The Work Of Making It What It Should Be". When I allow myself to wallow in the vortex of the former,

I’m surprised how little people talked about how speaking in tongues is kinda racist when you think about it, at least if you’re one of the ”shoulda boughta Hyundai but I boughta Kia” types

One of my more startling realizations post-church was that legalistic/pharisaical people are not confined to the church, they are everywhere and in everything.

“Life begins at conception” is a euphemism for “the soul enters the body at conception”

It's an interesting conversation to discuss when a person becomes a person, and why, but it's probably not worth controlling anybody's body or rights over.

The purpose of private incarceration is to make money.
Positive outcomes for prisoners or society cannot get in front of profits, that is to say, they only benefit society insofar as they generate wealth for the investors.

This is probably not a good thing.

A lot of parents get frustrated trying to explain to their sleepy toddlers why naptime is important.

A lot of educated people get frustrated trying to explain policy to uneducated people.

My house is a mess. Someone offered to help me clean it, but I am not sure if they are perfect and I am tired of the status quo so I have instead decided to burn my house down. The person I have hired to do this has assured me everything will be better after my house is a smoldering pile of ash.

Ever think about how the generation who grew up on Jurassic Park, a movie about the dangers of greed and putting what you could do ahead of what you should do, wholesale embraced social media, whose companies rely on a “move fast and break things” mentality?

The people who demand to base the definition of good and evil exclusively on their own religion kindly request that you stop shoving your lifestyle down their throat.

Still trying to wrap my head around the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" crowd voting for a big strong daddy to fix the price of eggs for them

Like, the empathetic compassionate part of me wants to find a common ground & every time I look for it, it's just an ocean of hypocritical doublespeak.

The Democratic Party survives by ditching corporate ties and embracing what people actually need. No more centrism, no outdated norms. Focus on populist messaging: renewed infrastructure, taxes, things that bring real change on the micro level.

There is nothing in Christian theology that I know of that puts Satan specifically in a "punisher" role as often portrayed in media. Hell and the Devil are often paired, but it was Dante and Milton who gave us the image of a Lucifer who rules over Hell.

So true. When you live in deep red areas, Republicans will say terrible things about Democrats while remaining *deeply* sensitive to any slight from the left.

On the Christian right, they view their insults as courageous truth-telling, while similar rhetoric in return is treated as persecution.
if you live around conservatives, a common bumper sticker reads “liberalism is a mental disorder.” you’ll see effigies of dem politicians, unhinged screeds about satan-worshipping dems written on lawn signs. this stuff gets ignored while any hint of condescension from liberals is treated as endemic

The blame game is a distraction our minds create (or the ego creates) to deal with overwhelming anxiety, among other things.

Don't externalize your inner workings onto others, go deeper within and dig in to your experience. Just exist within it, dropping pretense for the present moment.

What if the winning move isn't to indulge in limitless schadenfreude, but instead to demand that populists live up to their promises such that when they don't fulfill them adequately (and let's face it, they won't) an alternative can be suggested. #USPOL

Ok, I have caught up on crossposting for today :D I'll try to get better about posting here and on Threads, is anybody using a centralized software to post everywhere at once or do people really go between both? I am still trying to figure out how this app fits in for me.

Maybe if the left got serious about taxing churches like the right got serious about pushing them into every corner of society
