By 2050, if our pathway is delivered against, annual household energy bills are predicted to be ~£700 cheaper than today, and household driving bills are predicted to be ~£700 cheaper than today.

Around 65-90% of the required investment will be paid by the private sector. But we will need targeted public investment too. It’s important that policymakers ensure this money goes in the right place - to unlock private investment.
February 26, 2025 at 8:45 AM
This will require initial investment, but we expect to start seeing savings in the Seventh Carbon Budget period. We think it’ll cost about 0.2% of GDP from now to 2050. This is less than we thought when we last gave advice in 2020.

We’ve looked at what this means for a household. We commissioned a citizen’s panel and have thought about what this means for each one of us over the next 25 years.

Electrification makes up 60% of emissions reductions by 2040. This includes decarbonising the grid and replacing fossil fuelled cars and heating systems with electric alternatives.
February 26, 2025 at 8:45 AM
We have published our advice on the Seventh Carbon Budget. It is in line with previous Government commitments – the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Carbon Budgets, international commitments, and the Net Zero commitment in 2050.

We have some more dates for your diaries for next year. With the publication of the UK’s Seventh Carbon Budget in February, we will follow this with carbon budget advice in each of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. https://www.theccc.org.uk/news/coming-up/

UK emissions are now less than half the levels they were in 1990. But we must continue to push on. Ambitious actions are needed beyond the energy sector – especially in industry, transport and buildings....
January 15, 2025 at 6:52 PM
The UK must significantly increase the use of these technologies. By 2030, we need to see:

- New electric car sales need to go from 16.5% -> to nearly 100%
- Heat pump installations need to go from 1% to 10%
- Increases in offshore wind x3⃣, onshore wind x2⃣, solar x5⃣
January 15, 2025 at 7:17 PM
In the last year, UK emissions fell by 4% overall. We are starting to see glimpses of a low-carbon transition, but this will need to ramp up alongside renewables, heat pumps and EVs becoming the norm.
January 15, 2025 at 7:11 PM
Across all sectors the pace of action needs to increase. We highlight transport, buildings and industry as key sectors which must see sustained emissions reductions. It is a story of progress that must go beyond electricity.
January 15, 2025 at 7:04 PM
Put together, the picture of progress and plans to meet the 2030 target is not good. We consider only a third of plans to meet this target credible.

Almost half of the required emissions reductions carry significant risk or insufficient plans.

Our annual Progress Report is out today. The country’s 2030 target is at risk. It’s not too late to get back on track but now the Government needs to take urgent action in the next year.

Let’s take a closer look at the analysis ->🧵
