Ahh VR is a good point. I don't have a VR headset atm, but I will get on eeventually. Best of luck with it! I did heavily consider Bazzite, but Cachy felt a bit more up my ally. Though Bazzite was my number 2/3 choice.

Finally, if you're considering Linux, I'd give it a shot. I really don't feel like I've lost anything or "accepted a lesser system". If anything, I feel I have more control over my system, and I feel like it's a pain to do anything in Windows when I go back to transfer something I forgot.

As for streaming.. I've not been live since, but that's due to overhauling my overlay not due to Linux. I do have a couple of small grievances with Linux OBS, but it's 2 things. The missing custom web docks, and no hotkey to capture current focused window. Otherwise it's basically the same.

As for game support, I've not noticed any difference. I play the same games and don't do anything special. Some games run better, some games run slightly worse. It's usually the matter of +/- a few fps vs my Win 10 install. I doubt most people can tell a difference without seeing the FPS counter.

For keeping up to date or every day use, I don't need terminal. Despite being a programmer, I don't want to use terminal all the time. If there's a gui option, that's easier. I'm lazy, why would I want to type code every time (fight me other devs).

some tools or workflows the ways other people do.

As for "needing terminal" I opt to use it on Cachy at times. If I used something like Mint/Zorin, I don't think I would need them at all. Even on Cachy, the times I need it quite sparse, and mostly boil down to "special install" for some software.

A couple of ending notes. I've heard mixed things about Davinci Resolve support on Linux. For the way that I use it, I actually thing it's a better experience. It's snappier, faster, changing times is like 13 seconds faster, and it's great. That said, I'm not a trained editor, so maybe I don't use -

As for day to day use, I honestly don't think about using Linux. It's just another operating system, and I launch my programs, update, play my games, and function just like I did on Windows. The only difference is my startbar looks different. That said, there are win10/11 themes if that's your thing

The reason for redoing configs, like OBS, was to redo layouts, themes, hotkeys, or just try a different workflow. Nothing specifically because I couldn't move them. Overall moving stuff over was a fairly easy, but there is a lack of documentation on moving configs over. I might write guides on those
November 23, 2025 at 7:17 PM
As for moving settings over, most applications didn't have guides. With a bit of searching, most apps you can just copy/paste your old settings files. I converted them for Krita, blender, streamer bot (special), PCSX2, P4V, and a few others. Some apps I chose to restart my configs.

And it worked pretty much perfectly! Other than these two I didn't have issues with installs, here's a short list:
Blender, Krita, UE, Unity, Godot, VSCodium, Zed, OBS, Warudo, Streamer bot, random emulators, dungeondraft, foundry, FL Studio, Obisidian, Tiled, and so on.

Eventually I got this to work with paru (runs the build for you) as long as I put the installer in the right place each update.

As for Paprika well. After there was no Linux port. I had some issues with Wine, but after learning that Bottles had an install script for it, I swapped to Bottles for it.

As for Davinci, there was an Aur package for it, and after a bit of investigating it turned out to be a really simple install just without many instructions. Tldr download the davinci installer then run the aur build.

As for installing software, 95+% of the things I use had a Linux version, and it was as simple as installing through the package manager. I did have a few pieces that were hard to convert. Namely Davinci Resolve and Paprika Recipe Manager.

The install process was butter smooth. I had no issues during install, Cachy let me choose which desktop environment/look to use, and even had a welcome program to install common programs such as a gaming package which included drivers, steam, and other things.
November 23, 2025 at 7:08 PM
First thing was choosing a distro. I was a bit mixed on what to choose, but Mint, CachyOS, Zorin, Endeavor, Bazzite, and SteamOS stuck out to me. I'm a power user and don't mind getting into a terminal, so Cachy was my pick. That said, I think Mint/Zorin are more entry level.

I just saw all this and I didn't use it myself. Thst said, gotta drop a StreamerBot suggestion. I use it personally and it's stellar.
November 18, 2025 at 8:37 PM
Big fan of StreamerBot as well, and it works quite well in Wine on Linux. It can take a moment to familiarize yourself, but it is extremely powerful.
November 18, 2025 at 8:35 PM
And yes, Warudo can connect to it. I've been able to get VSeeFace going on Linux, and IFacialMocap with Warudo (should work with other apps) in case anyone is considering it.
