It's interesting like, Grisham took it because he isnt finding a better deal. Imanaga is the big surprise to me. Woodruff isnt a surprise, he was hurt last year so a 22M prove it deal is nice. I have no opinion on torres

It is a bit subjective. As a SP he sucks. As a RP he's yuki matsui, who's a bit mediocre but doesn't suck. There's a role for Hart but it's long relief/6 inning guy and at only 1M thats fine. If the Padres stay under the CBT the roster is going to be filled with Harts. If they go over 1M is nothing
November 18, 2025 at 9:29 PM
That's not an issue though. They need people down there who they can call up. It's 1M dollars, if you expect them to stay under the CBT then the roster was always thus going to be filled with other Kyle Harts. If they go over the CBT, 1M for him means nothing.

It most likely never did. But it surly implicates some very powerful people who Trump is terrified of and knows that if they go down, they're going to drag him down with them.

He was better as a reliever, but he's still nothing more than a low leverage one. The issue will be if they think he can still be a starter that pitches significantly. He's going to spend most of his time in AAA i suspect. At barely over league minimum he's nothing to care about

It better be.

There is nothing stopping them beyond the possibility that they know backups exist that they can't get access to.

Ah i see. I only came across PHT in 2023
November 17, 2025 at 9:37 PM
I know, but the Make the Padres Great Again thing was his whole shtick, right? Didn't he make a documentary on it. PHT is more in the realm of Keep the Padres Great

I don't think there's much to it, even back then. That was AJ probably just seeing if there was any interest as he does with every player. We've heard Jake rumors every year since 2020. They also don't have any prospects to attach that they could give up/not need for trades to fill holes.

As for point 2. this person who used to work in PE said that the 500M in various dept, the obligation to continually update the ballpark, the current cost of running the team, would not be an enticing place for PE to get into.
November 17, 2025 at 9:23 PM
Not quite. Basically for point 1. All their revenue is tied to ticket sales, which is due to the stars being on the team. So a "poor" owner, like a Moorad/Moores, couldn't afford to run the team and if they stripped the team down they'd lose all their revenue because of no tv deal.
November 17, 2025 at 9:21 PM
Also this person mentioned that though many of the owners would love for the Padres to go back to being a forgettable mediocre team, it behooves them to approve of a true billionaire because the Padres are a revenue sharing team and when they're over the CBT, owners like Nutting gets that money too
November 17, 2025 at 8:28 PM
Which basically amounted to:
1. Padres are too valuable and expensive to run for a "poor owner" or consortium of millionaires to come in
2. Their finances are too fucked for PE to be interested.

Which leads the most likely outcome being they sell to a multi-billionaire or don't sell (worst outcome)
November 17, 2025 at 8:19 PM
There was a high likelihood she would have had to sell as well. Hell, Ben was saying this morning that Acee told him some sources even said Peter may have had to sell. The reality is no one currently has the money to run the team and though they may be profitable, the finances are still a mess.
