Collector and researcher of lighting technology from medieval to recent.
History of the electrical industry especially during the carbon lamp era and our contemporary changes in decarbonisation
2/2 oil burning boilers and steam turbine engines.
Four electric generators powered the many electrical items on board from Radar to ovens.
Lots of warning signs as some asbestos insulation in situ but encased in fibreglass

3/3 Glam
Here is one of three sets of LED "neon" signs for Halloween visitors.
These signs are becoming quite common in many shops and many are illuminated words or phrases
I was impressed by some of the visitor costumes.

2/3 Glim.
It still works and made by general electric under the name of osglim
The base contains a current limiting resistance and it is a neon discharge lamp.
Multiple lamps within a reflector the shape of letters were used in illuminated signs but the tube style was more common from late 1920's

How many flags?
Are you after a full set plus those in the message?
Or are you just wanting a full set plus the few extras to make the message.
I have no idea how big a signal flag is or what type of fabric it is.

I recall the two Soham primary schoolgirls who went missing and the Sunday Times newspaper reported that they were abducted after being online with a paedophile the day before.
Total misinformation when the caretaker was later convicted of their murder. But headlines sell papers

Curiosity!
Online databases can be searched by anyone (if not behind a paywall) So a few keywords can reveal the original source and then questions arise about relationships between different factors. And a healthy skepticism about the source and human nature.

For this wannabe historian reader of your post could you expand upon professional training in historical research.
Do you mean academic study of history or database interrogation?

2/3 Then I watched a lighting demonstration but cannot show you as only photos are supported here. It was dramatic with animated lights and laser effects

In 25 years an A I system will incorporate your picture into some report requested by a student. You will then become famous as the last of the traditional captains

Affluent areas were the first to get new lighting technology and I can see gas lamp posts in your photograph.
There was a thirty year period at the end of the Victorian era when the new light was carbon arc lamps.
Do any posts remain in Liverpool?

Most neons that I see have the tubes within a perspex box to offer physical protection.
Mercury release from broken tubes is another issue where a broken compact fluorescent released 3.2 milligrams of mercury vapor which is a level 2 incident.
I would still want one as safer than burning an oil lamp
