Another recent read I loved was Bound by Maddie Ballard from @theemmapress.bsky.social …a beautiful sewing memoir! The writer reflects on relationships, identity and more as she looks back on learning to sew and the various projects she has completed since.

Eden by Sonia Overall - what a brilliant book. Three narrative threads bring together a literature professor (Penelope), Hemingway and the voice of one of his female characters. Absolutely loved it and was gripped by Pen’s story…

2/ to prep I'm revisiting this piece I wrote on the diary as a form of self-portrait in the work of Susan Sontag and Alix Cléo Roubaud a while back, which is one of my favorite things I ever wrote -- I thought I'd reshare it here maifeminism.com/disappearing...

Elkin situates the diaries of Alix Roubaud and Susan Sontag alongside their creative work. A new reckoning of the personal and political.

New on the blog today, I've written about THE DOOR by Magda Szabó (tr Len Rix).

An extraordinary portrayal of a complex, co-dependent relationship between a Hungarian writer and her enigmatic, unpredictable housekeeper. Phenomenal stuff! #BookSky 💙📚

The Door by Magda Szabó (tr. Len Rix)
First published in Hungarian in 1987 and translated into English by Len Rix in 2005, The Door is the third book I’ve read by Magda Szabó, and it’s very much of a piece with Iza’s Ballad and Katalin…
