Well, if nothing else my pixel art skills have improved in the last 6 or 7 years.
Here's an old sprite compared to it's new replacement.
Just for a rusted warfare mod, but I had some fun making it.
An old sprite for a strange, winged creature. Two small blue-ish orbs are just infront of the wings sticking out of the long body. The wings have some blue blocky effect on them. Two more recent sprites. To the left is a dark coloured insect-like thing with a jagged shell and four legs, and green showing through the back of the shell. To the right is a newer version of the winged creature. There is now some shading on the body, and the blue-ish orbs are larger and more detailed. The wings are now hollow frames with fleshy veins stretching across them like spider webs.

He took the scalpel and tweezers from Oliver’s hand and then dropped a huge book titled “Rules for working under the Trever Lineage.” In to his arms. Oliver quickly opened to the last page. It was an eight hundred page book. The font was so small the pages were almost black. (Jesus Fucking Christ…) “I’ll… read it at home.” “Alriiiight~ Just make sure you read every bit of iiiiit~” Trever danced around the room, collecting all the equipment he needed to start surgery.

Giant robot Scorpionionion

I haven't got the word 'retail' but I do have this annoyingly long description of the highstreet economy under alien occupation.
Oliver strolled along, back in to Oxford and went shopping. Most of the old shops had never re-opened since the basic necessities could be provided and maintained by automatic drones, though the Pyrogons had provided additional benefits to those who ran their own businesses. Fredegidory ran his charcoal grill, while Oliver was a mechanic for hire. Some people built machines and others would sell second-hand items, or hand-crafted tools. Some even farmed crops and animals, which were sold purely on novelty value, compared to the factory produced plants and lab-grown flesh that was provided automatically. All of this had led to a relatively small, but quite interesting economy of novelty or hobby workers, who were rewarded for their work with different novelties or luxuries that were not counted among basic necessities. The people outside of this economy would only have a little access to luxury items, if any. Most had to repurpose leftover materials or use scraps if they wanted more interesting items, or spend the small amount of money they were given as a means to ration access to the market. This was reflected in the variety of shops Oliver walked past. There were a variety of second-hand shops, selling all sorts of leftover scraps of paper, junk, fabric and broken machinery. Anything that wasn’t sold would frequently be collected by the Pyrogons and recycled. There were a few shops selling hand crafted items of various kinds, and number of shops selling hobby equipment or offering tutoring services. However, the shops were quite spread out compared to the early 21st century.

Oliver gets attacked by a made scientist straight out of a horror game and his biggest concern is still getting the paperwork sorted out.
Being almost unkillable does weird things to a guy...
“Uugh… Motherfucker… Hey, ledford, you traumatised or something?” Dr Thatcher grunted. “Uh, a little on edge, yeah… What the hell is he, seriously?” “An absolute freak show, that’s what. Not that you’re one to talk. I’m surprised you’re coping so well.” “What’s that supposed to- OW!” Oliver turned and flinched back, gripping his right shoulder. “I suppose I spoke too soon…” Thatcher muttered. “He dislocated your shoulder, you only just noticed?” “Yeah, yeah. Gimme a second.” Oliver dismissed Thatcher’s attitude and snapped his shoulder back in to place with a loud ‘CRACK.’ “Good as new.” Dr Thatcher was silent for a few seconds. “Whatever, let’s just get back to the lab. We’ve got to finish cleaning up all the paperwork and get the equipment ready for the next project.”

So this part I wrote a while ago, and I forgot how cartoonishly evil I made the villains in this story.
I'm not changing it, there's plenty of real people who are this evil. But still...
Enigma disappeared as one of the servants poured a glass of wine for Antonello. He slowly drank the wine. “This is getting a little boring… How about we make it more exciting?” He asked. “Since I have granted you the honour of serving me, I’m sure going back to your old lives is nothing but a nightmare now.” Opened a small hatch on the side of the bathtub and took a gas mask out of it. He put the gas mask on and pressed a button on the side of the hatch. With a loud hissing noise, the room was filled with gas.

The middle-aged man- an apparent nutter, as Oliver had decided, shifted himself across the seat until he was next to Oliver and handed him a copy of the morning papers. “Here, what do you think of this?” Oliver took the paper. ‘FAMILY OF FIVE FOUND DEAD WITH BLOOD DRAINED. A couple and their three children were found dead- presumably killed. Sewn to their car seats and drained of blood’ Oliver raised an eyebrow at the headline. It seemed real… and far too absurd to believe. “Sounds like an elaborate revenge plot or something. They’ll find the killer in a week.” He skimmed through the rest of the article in just a few seconds and handed the paper back. “Frankly, I’m surprised they were even allowed to run such a brutal story. They’re going to incite panic.” The middle-aged nutter looked at him and leaned forward. “No- that’s just it! They want to cause panic!” He whispered. “I’ve seen strange folk wondering around lately- foreigners all over the place! It’s a plot to make people afraid- turn us against each other so we don’t see the truth! The government’s hiding ghosts and lizards from us! The Reptoids- It’s all the work of the Reptoids, I tell you!”

The picture and the sculpture will (One day) be extremely important, I swear.
He moved to the next room. This one was as long as the other room, but the walls were red curtains. He felt a gentle, but chilling breeze from them and shuddered. He decided to move through this room and fast and silently as possible. The next room was plain and dim- on one of the stone walls was an old painting, cracked and dusty. It looked like the paintings of a European ruler, but depicted an eerie, feminine figure with a body made of a dying night sky, shrouded in an indeterminable frost. It’s great, blank eyes like endless starlight. On the other there was a small alcove in the wall, serving a sculpture. It’s bounds and shapes didn’t quite fit with each other, twisting amorphously inwards to nothing. The cloud-thing’s form extended downwards, where it perched upon a bladed staff. Otherwise, the room was empty.

In today's episode of 'what the hell is this guy's life,' Oliver dies, has a literal out-of-body experience and probably almost meets god but stops being dead just before he gets the chance.

Overwhelming emotions. The cache shone brightly, a crack emerged from it that wrapped around the lights of his mind, engulfing what Oliver perceived as the space around him. Then it shook and Oliver quickly backed away, down the thread. A violent pulse of crimson and blackness exploded from the golden lights. He felt fear and panic, more intense than anything before. He felt guilt, terror and hopelessness. He was flung back, crashing through his conscious mind and shattering it, shrinking his psyche before the radiant hymn and light disappeared. He felt the anchor release him, and he spun back through the annals of reality, released from the infinite layers of compressed dimensions and the Fractal Sea of energy, he punched through the space beyond space and could not track it- infinite expanse repeated infinitely past him before any time passed.

The unethical genetic experiments don't help, either.
“Marvellous! Marvellous! Your eyes show pristine response to the light!” He yelled, turning the light between different settings before switching it off. “Such brilliant pupil dilation! A prime genetic sample, indeed!” Oliver stumbled back after his head was released, processing whatever it was that just happened. The second thing he noticed was that Dr Kay’s face was rather blocky- except for his grin which looked as through it was about to rip through his coriaceous skin and wrap around his entire head. The man was hunched over and his neck somehow appeared folded inwards through layers of… Something underneath a horribly stretched turtle-neck.

Here's an accidental face I had lying around in my college meme folder.
Pretty sure I made this in Krita by accident. It looks kinda like a face. If you pay attention you can see a mirror line in the middle which explains why whatever brush tool I used was perfectly mirrored and joins in just the right way to look vaguely like there's a mouth, and a nose, and I think those look like very tired eyes and sunken eyebrows and honestly that just summerises how I feel at the moment. You know how many AI videos I've been recommended lately? Like, fifty. All from seperate channels so I can't even block them with 'don't recommend channel.' It sucks. Being reminded about AI sucks. I am really angry. But not, just sad face. I've actually been working on a lot but nothing is worth showing yet- once again the face summerises my circumstances. First post in, what, four months? Stop reading this, seriously. I mean it. I will curse you with the power of the moon men that I was granted by my screaming ramblings at the night sky if you continue readng. OK? Right, that's it. May your nose always feel runnier than it is, and all your tissues crumble in to little bits of paper that get everywhere and clog the hoover up. Then when you try to unclog the hoover, a hundred insects will emerge because you just ruined their new nest and they're very angry with you >:( Now you have insects everywhere. How do you like that? The insects don't like it. Your house belongs to the bugs now. Woodlice are under every carpet. It's too late to stop them. Your bed? Yeah, that belongs to moths. They've already stolen your blankets, and honestly how could you even think about kicking that upstanding member of society out of their bed? You ruined their home and now you make them sleep in the cold? Foul beast. I curse you to always miss 'mind the step' signs and their equivilants wherever you go. See that spooky picture up there? I forgot what it was but it's definitely judging you. You feel shame, ya? I burns inside you? G O O D.

The body is easy enough to manipulate but they tried to control our minds. They did not just enhance them much, but tried to install a number of new instincts and conditions in to our brains, make us puppet-soldiers.
