Sites like Substack that host independent journalists (many of whom who've left traditional media) are doing just fine:
Sacra estimates that Substack generated $29M in revenue in 2023, up 50% from $19M in 2022, with about 3 million paid subscribers. Substack makes money by collecting a 10% cut of all money paid to writers on the platform.
