Now we have constant time travel just to create alternate timelines instead.

Tattered. Shakey. In search of coffee.

Interesting! I have an m2 macbook air, and I haven’t had any problems at all.

Do it. Embrace the dark side of the force.

I’m 100% in favor of Easter eggs in software. Every one I ever came across was a little delight, like catching the original author winking to you over a shared in-joke.

I forgot they paid for posts there. I wonder if that’s better or worse for Bluesky, maybe having big names stick to X will let a different culture develop here.

Believe it or not, there’s a normal amount of stuff happening. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a break from social media. These platforms are designed to make you feel like you could know everything _if you just scroll down one more time_.

For programming languages we’re not just bringing in more information, we can run translated code to see if the translation is correct. You can’t do that in many fields at all. With synthetic data, who’s to say whether a reconstruction is accurate or just noise?

With a programming language you can run the resulting code and see that it works exactly the same as the code it’s translated from. You can’t do that in very many cases at all. Who’s to say a synthetic reconstruction is accurate, or if you’re just adding noise?

There’s nothing wrong with learning from big models as long as you know what you’re doing. Generated data has the same information as the original data set, the differences between documents are effectively noise.

Look at the first sentence on pg 19. They trained small models on the big model, which helped because small models have less resolution than big models. It’s like taking a picture of a picture, you can’t get a high resolution picture by photographing a low resolution one.

If you train on synthetic data, you model the generating model, not the data. If you were training a model from scratch it might make sense to pass in synthetic data early on to rough the model in, but the more you rely on it, the less it learns from the real data you’re trying to teach it.

It’s like using a Star Trek transporter. This version of you dies when you log off.

I have one as well. I never thought I’d be able to forget about bringing chargers around with me!

Same with construction sites. There’s no one even in them at night.

On this one they have a new feature where you can call anyone in the US with just a 10-digit number. No QR code or anything.

I can’t believe this is how I found out about naked gun.

What!? Riker obviously! He’s got the bounce-backability and charisma you need to lead the team to fight back against such crazy odds!

I wonder what the subjective experience of living in the federation is like for the average Joe. Technical bureaucracies seem like a nightmare in terms of lived experience.
