Oh yeah. Charlie's voice is perfect for the character even if I don't have any interest in his content.

It's the Telltale effect. Most of the time with these games you're not choosing what happens per se as much as you're choosing the tone/flavor that goes along with it.

The devs are ex-Telltale so I had a feeling it would end up that way ultimately.

I also chose to let him go, and while I don't regret it to that degree I did really feel his absence.

It was literally an impulse choice I made as the timer reached zero. I was agonizing over it because I didn't want to cut anybody.
