You can't even call it skill based anymore. I am 1v5ing 8-10 DP characters on your brand new Ultra AI setting, who also have massively increased damage, defense and hyper armor. For fucks sake, give me some leeway on your stupid Z rank so I can be DONE with this nonsense.

Someone forgot to...ya know, put a tutorial in for M100's ranking system. Probably because time + DP is a terrible idea. But getting this Z rank is entirely based on how cooperative the ai is with not wasting your time. Here's 5 super counters in a row, here's some revenge counter spam.

I am 98% through Z ranking everything in Mission 100. 1% of that is bugged and uncompletable. And the other 1% is total utter bullshit. "Super Boss Rush" is probably, technically possible to Z rank. Ive gotten within spitting distance of it. But it's the most RNG dependant nonsense.

No person on the dev team played through Mission 100. I would be genuinely astounded if anyone; nevermind commited, hardworking developers, had played through it in its current state and thought it was even semi-okay. Hyper armor sucks and breaks the combat so badly.

It feels like I just only barely remember the big moves or combos and how to dodge them. But the minute differences between general combos, attacks and such just become murky and agitating. And my lack of getting better, and the constant attempts at the game to RNG me into oblivion don't help
June 13, 2025 at 10:49 PM
I can't do that here, or at least I can't do it easily. Given the ability to just keep trying these bosses over and over, I would probably be a force to be reckoned against them at this point. But because I can't, I feel woefully inadequate. Every time I fight, it feels like the second time.

But to accumulate greater mastery, an hour and a half of grinding turns into a dozen hours. I got good at Radahn or Malenia through repeated, sequential death. I experimented, learned and ingrained their timings and moves into my instincts to where I felt competent at them.
June 13, 2025 at 10:49 PM
And the problem here is, this game is (very simplified) a giant 35 minute runback to mid-endgame ER bosses. They're hard to learn because you have to take so much time in-between attempts. It's not that hard to beat them, or at least it's not impossible to just brute force your way through.
June 13, 2025 at 10:49 PM
One of the reasons I hate this game as much as I do. Is because I'm not great at it. My skill in ER, even as washed as I am. Didn't translate over as well due to the game being so focused on speed. And given the night lords are the hardest part of the game by far, my inexperience shows.
June 13, 2025 at 10:49 PM
And while better(or at least more experienced) players could just skill issue every boss in the game. Optimal strategy for this game is killing every possible boss you can find as quick as possible. It encourages poor play, puts even more RNG into the game. It's just awful.
June 13, 2025 at 10:49 PM
This game had literal years of experience and player feedback to fall back on for ER's generally lackluster boss design. And they fixed basically none of it to throw these unaltered shitheads into gank fights. It's a crap rogue-lite too because it's almost entirely RNG dependant.
June 13, 2025 at 10:49 PM
It's competant, relatively well thought out (way too cryptic though). And is a complete departure from the fact that 5 minutes ago I fought 4 perfumers in a row, or 2 nights calvary. Maybe there's a way to tanky bell bearing hunter or a Dragon in a tiny arena.
June 13, 2025 at 10:49 PM
Libra is the perfect example here. A boss that expects you to break runes to stop the buff, pick up glowing crystals to reduce madness buildup. Minor gimmicks that don't completely throw out the hit it until it dies methodology that past gimmick bosses tended to remove.
June 13, 2025 at 10:49 PM
Here's the major problem. 90% of Nightreign is dogshit put out by people who weren't given enough time or money. And the other 10% shows a massive change in design philosophy that while very welcome to Miyazaki's standard, either didn't have enough time or competence to expand properly.
June 13, 2025 at 10:49 PM
I am so unbelievably sick of RNG nonsense. Ope there goes a third of my health on an already squishy character, guess I'll just get one shot. Oh thanks game for spawning the thing I need to remove it, 3 inches from the edge of the circle. Please give me a good fucking spell.
June 13, 2025 at 10:49 PM
I didn't expect better, but I definitely wanted better. Basically don't buy it unless you have a group you can play with. Because just like most things, playing with friends is really fun. Especially if they all have varied play styles. 2 extra of me would be boring.

He's ER standard character number 1. Which is probably why I like him so much. Idk. I got very upset trying to do some remeberance stuff in solo and it sent me into a tirade. Because this game is at least 50% trash even if I get a little too amped to hate on it.

Duchess is far from bad, she just doesn't vibe with me very well. I just found myself not wanting to play other characters aside from Wylder, even if his damage lacks compared to the ranged characters. He's just so versatile of a character, both his skills are easy to use and very effective.
June 1, 2025 at 6:17 AM
I can stand to play like 3 of the 8 characters. Ive always despised ranged in these games, so I haven't played with them yet. But of the 5 melee characters, one of them has an awful dodge, and the other uses daggers and stealth...in a game where you need to go as fast as possible.
June 1, 2025 at 6:17 AM
The exact same ruins over and over. The character idea just seems poorly thought out. Elden Ring's core greatness, the reason it smacks other souls games even for veterans is its replayability and freedom to approach. Every character is restrictive enough that it's all gone.
June 1, 2025 at 6:17 AM
Playing in a party gives a ton of leeway that makes the problems far less obvious. But the massively restrictive time limit, with no indication of how far along it is just removes any semblance of planning or skill beyond just go to the nearest one. You'll fight the exact same bosses over and over.
June 1, 2025 at 6:17 AM
Like the boss with the most significant changes to it is godskin duo of all things. I had a lot of fun, even fighting them solo. But that does not change the fact that I've played demos with more unique content. Every issue in the game gets very noticable in solo which is why everyone hates solo.
