Many parents think triple is better for a level sciences and medicine. Therefore they push their kids to choose it, even if it isn't suitable for them.

This is why we say in our school that students must be working at a 6 or above first.

Only to students who achieve a 6+ in their exams half way through KS4. We then teach all the separate science content in Y11

We used to offer triple to all students before I joined.
1. The workload was too high for hods
2. Students ended up deciding to drop and move back to combined in Y11

But if it's open to all students (as may be the case) then schools would have no choice.

Head of bio will need to make Comb H P1, Comb H P2, Comb F P1, Comb F P2, Sep H P1, Sep F P1, Sep H P2, SEP F P2.

Same for chem and physics.

That's 24 papers total for the Head of Science to check! ☹️

Good to hear they're slimming it down. I didn't see that.

Offering it, but not all have to take it is even worse for schools. It means schools wont know each year how many classes of triple they'll have and will struggle to timetable this. Heads of dept will also each have to plan 8 exams for mocks

Yes, we do teach the why at KS3, but I'm not all that fussed if they get the why at KS3 or not. They have at least heard it once and will revisit it again at KS4 to try again. What's more important is that they can now use this to help predict displacement reactions.

We already teach this detail of the periodic table in Year 8. Students are honestly fine with it.

My issue with this is simply that students don't need to know this for everyday life. It isn't 'core' subject knowledge, and shouldn't be a requirement for all kids to know.

Unfortunately, from what they've released so far, it looks like they'll be heading in the opposite direction with science, and will be requiring all schools to offer triple science as standard. How on earth are they expecting to staff this?1

We don't have enough science teachers in the country as it is. How are all secondary schools going to offer triple science with the additional content that students will have to cover for these exams? This is completely nonsensical.

...and parents always think it's required for A-level science, when it's not.

Instead of making it compulsory for schools to offer this to students, I would have hoped that the government would have been smart enough to reduce the range of specifications science teachers have to deliver.

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at here. Israel is the occupier committing the war crimes.

Can you rephrase? Your question doesn't seem to make sense.

They discovered the molecular starship enterprise?

The Abes Odyssey games were awesome 😎

I never said that either 🙄

No

I would encourage you to read what I said.

I made no comments about people not heating their homes.

I'm saying that Costa Rica's energy grid is 100% renewable, whereas India's is far from it. Therefore the impact on global warming when using AC in India is far greater.

Depends how hot they get. Not good for little hands, but a good idea for adult only spaces
July 26, 2025 at 10:34 PM
It really depends where you are in the world. AC in Costa rica - fine. AC in India - bad.

Of course, if you need it you need it, and my simplification is overly simplified.

Interesting. Just had a bit of a read up on this. Who decides which track students follow? And how do schools manage parents expectations of which paths students should be on?
