Proud pansy boy trying to get back into reading.

I love my local library & gay, communist literature.

Went to the library to drop books off. I'm supposed to be emptying my withdrawals so I can read my Xmas books when they come, but...

This queer poetry book accosted me... Maybe I shouldn't browse especially the lgbtqia section for awhile.

The kids are alright.
There was an article in The Guardian a few weeks back about how Gen Z find bookshops preferable to online shopping, and a key factor was that an algorithm will offer you 6000 books identical to the one you just finished whereas a bookseller will offer you three that are different but meet the vibe.

Ordered a nice selection of queer books from @proud-geek.co.uk as my Christmas present. They have a black friday code BLACKFRIDAY25 for 15% off too.

Now I got to push through the library books I have out because i am not going to be able to resist these books when they arrive.

This.

Whenever local government reviews the library budget and asks, "Why should we give you money?"

We want the library to be able to say, "Because we provide a valuable service used by many people!"

Libraries are like muscles, using them more makes them stronger. 💪
Anybody who is like “Piracy is activism!”—trust me, supporting your local library is about 1000% more effective activism, and it’s still free for you and authors still get paid!

June 2025 Wrap Up:

Read many wonderful lgbt books this Pride. Hopefully many more in July too. So remember lgbt books aren't just for pride month!

Library Returns:

Soul on Ice by Eldridge Cleaver (1.5 ⭐)

First 90 pages were ok, everything afterwards was bizarre & extremely homophobic. A whole chapter throwing a tantrum that James Baldwin dislikes writers that the author likes, which ends with Cleaver comparing gays to pedophiles.

Library Returns:

Life For Sale by Yukio Mishima (3.5 ⭐)

Super hard to rate, I loved it's absurdity & dry humour, but the author's misogyny is also very present. I'd honestly love to read a book about him as it seems he had a fascinating (if a little scary) life.

What went back to the library today:

Queer: A Graphic History (3.25 ⭐)
Trans Britain: Our Journey From the Shadows (4.25 ⭐)
The 57 Bus (4.5 ⭐)

Needed some lgbt books to read on my trip to Manchester for a top surgery consult. I got my surgery date now! So excited.

Do you guys think I brought enough gay books for my 2 night stay in Trafford? 😂

The 57 Bus by Dashka Slater

The Last Wish by Andzej Sapkowski

Trans Britain edited by Christine Burns

Queer: a graphic history

Trying to read more lgbtqia+ books this year, but especially during pride month.

I got kind of obsessed with making bookmarks a few months ago. So of course I had to make a pride one!

Finished book 4 of tgcf yesterday.

4.75 ⭐ - so close to a 5 star tbh because the reveals were so good. I'm not going to in depth, but I may be enjoying this series even more than mdzs which seems sacrilegious because that series changed my brain chemistry for the better.

Pretty proud of my reading so far this year. Only got back into reading late 2024, so went with a modest goal of 20 books for 2025 & I've already passed that.

Plus it's my longest reading streak so far too. Storygraph has been great for keeping track as someone with adhd.

What I returned to the library yesterday:

If They Come In The Morning edited by Angela Davis (4.75 ⭐)

I've been finding some gems in the North Wales library services. This was obviously dug out of deep storage seeing as it's only got 2 stamps past the year 1976!
