Smart for Mamdani to make campaign promises in areas that he has control, rent, buses, day care and community grocery stores. But generally bringing prices down? Unlikely. Companies set their own prices based their own self interest: profit. No corporate price control boards in government (yet).

Conservatives: Chained to the past, walking backwards into the future, looking fearfully over their shoulders to detect any kind of changes, making decisions about the present only on the basis of beliefs and attitudes of the past, often the far past.

The H1-B visa upset brings up the perennial question: why did MAGA people and Trump voters ever think that millionaires and billionaires cared at all about their lives? Average people are simply commodities or targets to them.

The refusal by Trump to fund SNAP food benefits during the shutdown is just another example of the old saying that “for Republicans, cruelty is the point.” Notably the cruelty here is largely directed at their own supporters, as white Republicans are probably the largest group of SNAP recipients.

When the conservatives on the Supreme Court rule that Black-preference voting districts may not be created, they are automatically creating White-preference districts. The conservatives know this perfectly well. One might think that is their goal.

1. Purge govt of non loyalists
2. Weaponize law against opponents
3. Use military to police opposition strongholds
4. Threaten media, schools, businesses w penalties to get them to heel
5. Change election rules in his favor.
