And how could I forget the Raven and the Fox! Every time the Raven took over a chapter it was an absolute delight. And the Fox, oh how I am excited to see the havoc he brings. I look forward to seeing how the many aspects of the Raven and the cunning Fox return in the coming books.

While Neema's growth throughout to story was 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵, these highlights display how well other major characters have been fleshed out and how they develop over the course of the fight for the throne.
"Watercolours." His expression darkened. "I wanted to paint her. What they did to her." Yana. Never far from the Hound contender's mind. "But I couldn't do that, obviously, so...I painted the forest. I painted Dolrun. Let them fill in the rest." No one ever looks servant. Ruko looked. He saw her. And broke into a smile. ~ It was absurd. Wildly inappropriate. And hilarious. Yasila staring mid-distance, cool and regal and unforgiving. Benna doing what appeared to be a jig of encouragement in the aisle next to her. Ruko looked between the two women, then snorted back a laugh, covering his mouth with the back of his hand. He used to laugh like that, before. He'd forgotten. ~ That was what he needed. Tala breathed out. "What changed your mind?" He shook his head. Impossible to explain the conflict inside him. He barely understood it himself. "Those people, Ruko," she said again. He put an arm around her, stiffly at first. Slowly, something thawed as he remembered. This is how you hug someone. This is how you comfort them. This is what you do.

I am eagerly anticipating the next book in the trilogy & I can't wait to reread this down the line! I've compiled countless highlights across the book, and I need to share some of them. The first being a combination of beautiful lines that have hung on my soul balanced with relatable humorous ones.
"Have you laced the walls with hallucinogens?" she asked the Fox-bear. "Self-doubt is more potent than any drug,' he said, slotting the massive head back into place. "And more damaging." But when hope flares in the darkness, it blinds even the sharpest eyes. Cain had to admit, she looked hot. They both did. Rivenna was like an evil butterfly and Ruko was like a big, sexy wardrobe that might kill you, and these were both very much Cain's type. Cain had a lot of types. Some places are soaked in power. The ruined city of Samra. The cave networks of Helia. The House of Mist and Shadows, ancient sentinel of the grey marshes. History, faded to myth and then forgotten, can be lost. But the power remains, steeped into the stone like blood. Do not ask if that power is good or evil. Ask who plans to draw it out and use it.

Cassius is still around, though, and that's fine because while I was never too keen on him, he is the center of my only non-plot-related highlights throughout the book.
His jaw clenched. "We'll let him speak, of course, but if it comes down to it...if the only way to end the bargain is to..." He reached toward his dagger, squeezing the pommel. "I'll be the one to do it." "Cassius, I can't ask you to—" "And you haven't." "Of all the wishes tonight, yours was almost the loudest, nearly the most hopeful." He smiled. "The second easiest to grant." ~ "There was only one louder," he murmured before his lips descended once more. "Mine."

Another cute moment that makes me feel so strongly about their relationship. I'm even more excited to see the second book is already out, because what the FUCK was that epilogue about, Whitford???
Whit regarded me thoughtfully. "Do you think the three died by asp or poison?" I considered everything I knew about Cleopatra, gathered from what I'd read by the historian Plutarch and the memories that had seeped under my skin. "She was a renowned strategist and a meticulous planner, and it seems inconceivable to me that she'd trust her fate to a wild animal. Aren't asps famously sluggish creatures?" I shook my head. "No, I think she came to her death prepared. "Hemlock, then," Whit said. "I quite agree, but you have to admit the asp makes for a more dramatic tale, being the royal emblem of Egypt." The room had gone curiously quiet and I turned around, expecting to find the wall breached. But instead, Abdullah and Tío Ricardo stared between me and Whit, the pair of them wearing bemused expressions. "Are you quite finished with your morbid discussion?" Tío Ricardo asked in a dry voice.

I just finished 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘒𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘴 by Isabel Ibañez. I was oddly in the mood for a book with romance, and that combined with a mystery set in Egypt made it the perfect choice! I didn't have a highlight til chapter 21, which was wild. Anyways, here's some cute moments that I enjoyed!

"You're terribly decent,'' I said. "Despite pretending to be otherwise." "Just as long as you don't tell anyone," he said with a slight smile. Then he ducked out of my room. "I'm not going!" "What if I can't save you?" Whit asked, his eyes wild and in full-blown panic. "Please don't do this to me."

And here's two sections that simply stood out to me! I kinda want to draw what I think the aliens look like because I think my idea of them based on this description is waaaaay off lol
"Bodies are not that clean. They really are just bags of fluids and substances hanging from bones and wrapped up tight in skin. I can't help looking I down at my own body like I'm seeing it for the first time." "It appeared to be a skeleton. The bones and joints were much thicker than a human's, encased in a layer of some kind of glittering, crystalline cave growth that reminded me of snow. A mass of horns protruded from what seemed to be its skull, which was shaped like a broad, pointed shovel. I couldn't see any openings for eyes, but the mineral coating made it hard to know for sure. And that was assuming the thing even had eyes, or that I would recognize the eyes it had."

I greatly enjoyed this little pattern, by the way. Was so excited to go back and compare the beginning of these chapters. Like I said, definitely would be interested in a longer story that continues to use replaying openings to signify changes in character, even if the character isn't aware of it.

Finished 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘰𝘴𝘢𝘸𝘢 𝘔𝘶𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 by Riku Onda tonight. I originally meandered through the book, but the final few chapters sucked me in and left me pleasantly puzzled and surprised. Here's some of my favourite excerpts! (The last is such an odd perspective lol)

Fear is a spice that lends credibility. Just the right amount sprinkled in any story makes it plausible. I think he had a pathetic air that appealed to the ladies. The cruellest thing in this world is to be forgotten; yet time will bury the furore of the past and silence the chatter that was once on people's lips. You know, at bottom, no offence, but I think women are insensitive and lack finesse. That's not discrimination. I mean, it's hard work to give birth and raise a kid, so women have to be like that - they're built to just push on with things, no matter what. Men are essentially more uptight about everything, in my opinion.
