I watch a lot of soccer.
to be fair, that title is taken extremely out of context. what he's saying there is not in any way similar to what the title/thumbnail seem to imply.

Degenerates who yearn for a full-strength USMNT-Japan game once in our lives

Anything in particular you’re hoping to see from this Japan XI? I’m keeping an eye mainly on Mochizuki and Fujita. Feel like it’s hard to have any reliable collective takeaways so really just looking at individual performances

Single-digit (or very close to single digit) caps for all except Maeda, Nagatomo, and Ito in starting 11.

Nah Moriyasu fully intended to rotate and said so in press conference leading into the camp. Unusually short time between matches + huge travel for Japan from Europe to CA to Ohio. Will be interesting but big opportunity to get some good vibes and multiple goals for US.

Entire XI rotated for Japan. Great opportunity to build some positive vibes for USMNT with multiple goals vs weak JPN lineup with 38yo Nagatomo in backline. Feel the US will bounce back big in this game but we’ll see. 🇯🇵🇺🇸

youtu.be/HR1RjwYNnfY?... 2nd goal for Kobe a decent example of what he’s susceptible to. Of course still so young but definitely something that’s noticeable. I consider him to be the biggest U21ish prospect playing in J league now tho.

Caveat that I’ve just seen him at U20 level + handful of Frontale matches but would be surprised if he played on left at all. Big plus of him is his right-footed penetrating passes into final 3rd from back line. Minus is awareness/concentration, see Kobe’s 2nd goal in last weekends match.

Tho to be more nuanced, "defending deep" also isn't going to be a principle, rather the collective and individual principles that are executed while having to defend in your own third are the principles. I've said principles too many times.

Needing to defend deep in certain situations isn't "abandoning principles"...It is literally part of Ange's principles b/c every team needs to defend deep sometimes...

Yes, not a strong understanding of diff. b/t principles, tactics, style of play, identity, game model, and system of play in media and general football discussion. These are not the same nor are they interchangeable. Principles set foundation for style of play & establish a team's unique identity...

Just signed up. Had been a casual observer of domestic politics until recently. Now I’m all in. Have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated your coverage these last couple months. Happy to support.

To be fair I heard it as best day of PL era for Ange specifically. Either way, your other points about NBC’s coverage stand.

absolutely glorious.

Like, i love watching press conferences as you can discover a ton about a coaches personality/attitude/behaviors/etc through those, but I ain't watching Iraola's interviews. Aint nobody got the time for that. I only see his tactical approach on TV so that's what we can latch onto easier.
November 15, 2024 at 7:19 PM
Maybe it's human nature to imagine ourselves in the coaching role and therefore easiest to latch onto tactical approaches because they're seemingly (nowadays) the most discussed and most visible aspect of coaching? Harder to latch onto "attitude to the task" b/c rarer to see that side of coaches?

I've found that American spurs fans either joined the wagon shortly after that wonderful Crouch winner at City Bale doing Bale things time period (2009-2012ish) or peak Poch years and Kane ('16-'18) and essentially zero in between and since then. I do silently boast to myself that I started in '07

There's so much content and media that takes their attention and you can't blame them. Again, it's anecdotal but my two nephews (8 & 10) either are on their iPads, other device, or goofing around during NFL/MLB games their dad is watching and come watch the big plays like HRs and TDs.
November 15, 2024 at 6:05 PM
Yeah, great question. I assume it is just sports/media in general with kids (aged 8-18ish?) so it's not just soccer specifically. Their parents may be watching an NFL game, but the kids probably pay attention to very little of it.

have never actually watched a full match of them. They just catch the 10-60 second clips on Tik Tok. Rough world out there...
November 15, 2024 at 5:30 PM
about your son, coaching young boys the last few years I haven't had a single kid that watches the game regularly. They all know Vini Jr, Halaand and Lamine Yamal. 90%+ are fans of City, Real Madrid, or Barca (and they flop between the 3 depending on who wins the last game b/t them), but they

many still aren't watching it. Which feels worse? I know it's not worse, but just feels like it. I played pick-up with a dude wearing a US Pefok jersey and I gave him a shout-out cause that's niche af. He had no idea who Pefok was and never heard of him. He only knew Puli and Mckennie. To your point

I guess this has sort of been the issue in the US for decades now, but feels like it's actually getting worse? Just anecdotally, I was the only person on my HS team (30+players incl. JV/varsity) that watched the game with any regularity. That was 2006-2010. Though more are playing and repping merch,
