My #Egyptology friends here may recognise this fabulous small limestone ostracon, from Campbell Price's social media accounts.

The artwork depicts a funeral, and it's the subject of my next Artefacts in Focus article, dropping tomorrow morning at tetisheri.substack.com

My youngest decided a trip to the World Museum was her chosen activity for her birthday (that's my girl!), so while she and her gaggle of teens are wandering around the various exhibits, I've set up camp in the Egyptian galleries. There could be worse ways to spend my Saturday morning …

We didn't get to see much of the #LunarEclipse tonight, because we had to wait for the moon to rise above the houses across the street, but we managed to see a bit of it before the shadow of the earth disappeared.

Six years ago, I photographed this rather beautiful fish-shaped greywacke palette for the Garstang Museum of Archaeology's Before Egypt exhibition. It was found at the Hierakonpolis Fort Cemetery in Egypt, and dates to the Predynastic Period (c.4000–3000 BCE). #AncientEgypt #Egyptology

Charlcombe Church – a Norman church, and the smallest in Bath – with the late afternoon sun flooding through the Victorian-era stained-glass windows.

Six years ago today I embarked upon the first of many sessions photographing artefacts in the collection at Manchester Museum for their Golden Mummies of Egypt exhibition. Having a trolley full of objects wheeled up to my photography corner in the museum stores was just utter joy!

Just been reminded of some of my absolute favourite photography: Don McCullin's photography of culture and heritage, particularly of ancient sites like this one from the pyramids of the ancient kingdom of Kush (now part of Sudan). 1/2

This time 2 years ago I was busy photographing artefacts at the @garstangmuseum.bsky.social for their Creatures of the Nile exhibition, including this gorgeous little 2cm amulet of a hare. Composite image made from 140 photos using focus stacking & exposure bracketing. 📷 © me

Today, I caught (briefly) a hummingbird hawk-moth in the garden, darting about at high speed, filling its belly with nectar from our honeysuckle. (Video is at ¼ speed.)

They even gave us beanbags to lie on 😌

Back in April 2018, I bought a new macro lens: the Fujifilm XF 80 mm.

This photo, of an amulet of the sun god Re as a falcon-headed man, is one of the first images I made with the lens and I fell in love. Seven years later, it's still my faithful workhorse and one of my favourite lenses.

Leaves pinging open and buds appearing on my potted apple trees always raise my spirits. Plus, we have a new insect hotel ready for some tiny visitors 🐝

So that's it, everything's charged, cleaned, packed and ready for my first artefact photography session in 21 months. I'm so excited to be going to the Garstang Museum tomorrow.

#OTD in 2019 I photographed this 23 cm-tall Predynastic black-topped redware vessel with a small glyph inscribed in the centre. Originating from ancient Nekhen (Hierakonpolis), I photographed it for the @garstangmuseum.bsky.social exhibition Before Egypt. Feels so long ago now ...

I got out to the @garstangmuseum.bsky.social again yesterday (hooray!) and spent a little time leafing through some boxes of amulets, making a to-photograph list.

Proper update coming shortly, including details of the first amulet I'll be photographing next month 😊

This morning, I've been working on a photo of this happy chappie in the collection at the @garstangmuseum.bsky.social. I think he's quite pleased it's Friday. But, who is he ...?

Look at me! I went Out Of The House today for a visit to the @garstangmuseum.bsky.social for a catch up with sorely missed friends and to test the water to see how I felt spending a bit of time there. Tired now (and will be tomorrow), but so happy to have done it 😊

I love me a bit of chintzy Egyptology-related shelf-crap 😁

Fascinating stuff! Having been involved in the early stages of this project, it's great to see the ongoing work that bridges history, archaeology and art, putting a spotlight on the dispersed lives of both people and artefacts.
