Românian exit poll 54.9% Nicușor (centrist)
45.1% Simion ( far right)

But that does not include the large diapsora vote. More likely to be in favour of Simion.

Good luck Romania

Just leaving this photo here. One curated a statue to men who had their faces blown off, one fought the nazis+ then her son died, one had a son who was a commando killed by the taliban in Afghanistan + one fought the taliban. #womenwhoserve #lestweforget

In a world where we talk of peace in times of war, how do we manage ideas of war in times of peace?

A theme I try to explore in my new book LEST WE FORGET, available for PRE ORDER with a 25% discount @waterstones

Reposts welcome! 😉

Where are we heading?

God only knows but it feels properly insecure out here on the Eastern Frontier of NATO/EU.

A salient reminder that the opportunists who gambled the defense of Europe on a win for Trump cannot be trusted.

When I asked her to select a monument to war for my pending book #lestweforget she wasn’t content to just tell her own story through the KinderTransport statue at Liverpool Street but wanted to move the narrative forward.

She arrived in England aged 2 and loved it here. Later in life she returned and has spent all her life giving back, working for Amnesty International among others and making a difference.

Thought I would find respite in a 1926 book of poetry for the weekend.

It has a section of hate poetry. Really. 😳
Here is one about a ‘fat white woman whom nobody loves’

Before X there were poetry compilations.

President Trump, a convicted felon, has promised to root out a
‘Radical and corrupt elite.’

He has also promised a ‘golden age of growth’ Under his last presidency more US factories closed than opened.

These belonged to my grandmother - they are a bridal set, French 1920s apparently.

I am sending them off to a new home today. Clearing my mum’s house out has been weirdly painful but inevitably the contents of a highland home don’t fit into a London dolls’ house. X

Meet Colin Bell DFC.
He flew 50 raids over Germany in WWII.
He raises money for charity so tirelessly aged 103 he has just been awarded an BEM in the #NewYearHonours 👏👏
He is the voice of the Bomber Command Monument in my upcoming book: Lest We Forget.
He is a living legend.

Coming out in May it looks at the way we commemorate war and loss and heroism.

My publisher thinks it a book for men. (The war bit)
I think it’s more about women (managing the fallout + and serving the war machine)

It commemorates 2000 yrs of warring Britannia.
🤞u like it.

What was a US airman doing on a remote Highland war memorial? I discovered the answer by talking to the oldest villager - Anne. The airman, David, was her uncle. She remembers him well. Her story (and his) triggered an idea for a book.

Kinloch Rannoch, the Highland village where I grew up.

When mum said she was leaving after 55 yrs I was heartbroken.

I walked to the War Memorial + cried. We were piped here every year as children.
Through the tears I saw something I’d never seen before. The name of an US airman🧵
