Of course, a certain demographic seems to think that respectability politics is the act of being nice to minorities. Which is a stupid ass position. Anyone who cries respectability politics cause someone told them to stop being racist or some shit should absolutely be spit on.

We let a violent system dictate to us how we should resist it's violence. We engage in less than a fraction of the violence they do, and we are deemed to be the problem. There's a name for that, respectability politics. The idea that to fight our oppression, we must conform to our oppressors.

People are murdered by the state all the time. Does that make it ethical? And to what end? Why are these people being murdered. Most often, it's cause they didn't fit cleanly into our white supremacist, ableist, patriarchal society. But their actions are deemed acceptable cause it was by the state.

Theft is illegal, right? Does that mean that it's less ethical than letting entire fucking populations starve? Or go without water? Or medical services? The law isn't synonymous with ethics.

Like, we benefit every single day from slavery in some form. Do you mean to tell me that slavery is more ethical than burning down a plantation? Or offing slave owners? Fuck no. These actions were never legal, but that doesn't mean it wasn't the right thing to do.

I want people to think about the things that are legal, and the things that have been legal throughout history. Now I want you to think about how legal the actions of many revolutionaries, liberators, and freedom fighters were. Most were called terrorists in their day.

Trump isn't what we need to worry about. He could be replaced in a heartbeat. And it's possible his replacement will be worse. If you're hinging everything on his departure, be it to jail, or from office, or death, you're a fool.
