Fern enthusiast. Down to moss around.
Last year a word emerged in China "Ban wei" - meaning the smell of work... or the sniff of exploitation.

How one cleanses themselves from the sniff of exploitation is by quitting, resigning or taking time off.

Love Public libraries. This programming is so good.

Tonight focused on the capitalistic death industry in the United States. Capitalism has stigmatized Death in order to sell expensive end of life accoutrement. In the process we have become detached from death and our grief.

This is what compliance rather than resistance looks like, in micro ways every day.
This is in service to hearing authoritarians; it is by no means service to Deaf, Trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive people. It does nothing to be in solidarity with trans interpreters. We see you though.

This is the kind of thing that is understated, IMO. Unlike 'trickle down economics,' language use of the powerful DOES trickle down rapidly to all elements of society. Language, communication and the linguistic signs and symbols used by the powerful shape how we relate to one another.
There's been a fair bit of discussion about the links between political rhetoric and political violence. This piece revisits some of those arguments with some more recent examples.
Trump and his supporters often dehumanize #immigrants as “animals” or “aliens.” A human rights scholar warns that dismissing such rhetoric overlooks how words are a first step toward violent policies. https://buff.ly/3PYweeE

DID YOU KNOW for 25 years Matthew Shepard had no permanent resting place due to concerns his grave would be vandalized

Reverend Budde learned of this, she invited the Shepards to inter him inside the Washington National Cathedral.

She was and is a real hero.
