I agree but the media loves a “u-turn”. It’s like the whole Andy Burnham thing. Do you think the BBC and others want Burnham to stand for the benefit of democracy? No, they just want to get a lob-on as they watch the latest Labour soap opera.

True, but Labour have also made some politically daft decisions like withdrawing the winter fuel allowance and then reinstating it, planning and then stepping back from inheritance tax changes on farmers and supporting and then withdrawing plans for a digital id. They have not helped themselves.

It was most certainly not a mistake. But it was a huge error of judgement. The thrust of the edit was correct, but they should have made it clear that there was an edit.
