Trying to stay positive. The heavy frost blocks the view of vehicles passing by, much as the leaves used to do.

One last spin over our trails before the snow comes?

My chimney sweep’s topper keeps me from tumbling off my roof. Dirty job and a great view.

A disturbing book. Perhaps most disturbing is the fact that it was written AFTER Biden left the White House. Politicians AND the press share the blame for the coverup. The same thing is happening now as we see Trump deteriorate before our eyes as ‘President’ Stephen Miller holds sway. #Booksky

Lovely late October day on the deck. Trouble is, it’s only August 14th.

New rule. Irish Cream in my coffee only on Sunday. But nobody said anything about how large a mug I can use.

Dotted Blazingstar (Liatris Punctata) popping up near the brush pile. Roots were used in teas for treating kidney stones, stomach aches and sore throats. Smoke from smouldering roots was inhaled to stop nosebleeds and relieve headaches.

The middle pasture used to produce bales. When it was a ball diamond it produced home runs and great team wind-up parties. Now all it yields is romantic gestures.

How these instruments of torture ever became an iconic symbol of Canadian leisure I will never understand. I’d rather sit on an anthill.

No breeze. Smoke in the air. Reading Ted Barris’s book “Juno”. Father-in-law’s Regiment, Royal Winnipeg Rifles, was there. You know the first 20 minutes or so of “Saving Private Ryan”? Imagine that for 300+ pages. Hard to read through misty eyes. Can I blame that on the smoke? #booksky

Billed as being about the golden age of magazines. But the name dropping is at the platinum level. #Booksky

Made my annual tour of all the secret places I’ve found Western Red Lilies in over the last 30 years. Pleased to find more than ever after the last few disappointing years.

I had this issue back in 1960 when Mad Magazine was still funny. 10 years later I’d progressed to National Lampoon when it was funny. Now the only humour I can find is in the editorial page of the newspaper. Sad. #Booksky

Regina day trip for their annual Big Book Sale. Best sale I’ve seen since the VNSA sale in Phoenix. 18 books for $41. And only one duplicate! Hat tip to @HistoryCath for tipping me off to this terrific sale. #BookSky

Each book in the Jack Reacher series has been progressively worse for the last few years, especially since Child has been co-writing with his brother. But these stories of assassins, shady cops and others in the shadows are first rate. Terse, authentic, great dialogue. #BookSky

Sooner or later the belief that “That’s a really good box. Better save it” gets out of hand and drastic action is called for.

Back in the summer of 1970, before my first (and final) year of Law School I drove the garbage truck at Pike Lake. Today, 55 years later, I’m back…..only this time I’m with 3, count’em, 3 great-granddaughters and a sense of awe at what a long strange trip it’s been.
