From a report by Oxford University Press, "Teaching the AI-Native Generation," comes this quote about a 17-year-old unable to find the right words. There are many things to be sad about in this world, but this one sticks with me.

1. This is being passed off as a benefit of generative AI.

It's the bit just before this part that really does it for me. He's saying they could have cured cancer? First of all, what a completely ridiculous thing to say. And second, that you might even begin to make a comparison that there is some comparable benefit of gen AI to a cure for cancer?!

Yet another reason we need to reinforce libraries and dedicated spaces (and resources) for knowing about the world. I'm most worried for primary students.

And not to be left behind, Bloomberg also has AI-generated summaries on the article page. Just in case you don't have the time or interest to read. Though the amount of uncritical pablum I've seen on there, likely generated with AI...
