Iowa-born/raised gatherer of random knowledge, especially military history, aviation, space, canceled/abandoned military projects and Pre-Columbian cultures. Someday I may even finish reading 60% of the books I own...

I have a fair number of older books, one of the best is Willy Ley & Chesley Bonestell's "The Conquest of Space", published in 1949. Bonestell's artwork is the soul of this work, some which I'd like to share: 1/x First is a "transcontinental" rocket plane #SpaceArt
Some of most amazing pieces in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. #ancienthistory #archaeology #ancientegypt

1/x Forgot for a sec that it's #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, so let's honor those amazing cultures that thrived on this continent prior to European contact. 1st up, some amazing "Barrier Canyon" style #RockArt in Horseshoe Bend, Canyonlands National Park. Pics taken in 2023.

Reading material for the next few weeks: So far, a fascinating study on post #WWII airpower written by two UK authors, published the same year as Able Archer when tensions between #NATO & the USSR were very high...makes for a great historical snapshot! #avgeeks #ColdWar

One of my favorite pieces of #aviationart, depicting a Turkish F-16A. Featured in Bill Yenne's "Aircraft of the U. S. Air Force & Its NATO Allies" (1987). Not sure on the artist sadly. #Avgeeks

Another great piece in the Combat Air Museum's collection: a Grumman F-14A with its infamous (& terrible) powerplant, the TF30. Not a ton of Tomcats in museums these days sadly... #avgeeks #USNavy

One of the highlights of the Combat Air Museum in Topeka, Kansas: the nose section & cockpit of a Chinese J-8B fighter sent to the US for the Peace Pearl program. This program, signed by the Reagan Admin aimed to equip these fighters with an American radar (APG-66 variant). #Avgeeks
