That’s the lens through which folks should be reading the DOJ’s memo on crypto enforcement: www.justice.gov/dag/media/13...

If Congress doesn't pass a law before May, then the crypto folks anticipating a strategic reserve are likely going to be sadly disappointed in 2025.

Legislators will probably be dealing with more pressing priorities in these next few months, and then they will be tied up in budget talks that will carry almost through the end of the year.

Based on the way things are going, I would think the Republicans will fracture at some point; even in its current state, Congress likely won't be able to come to any consensus on what a strategic reserve ought to include.

1. Any kind of strategic assets reserve including anything other seized assets would require an act of Congress, and Congress would be unlikely to approve such a thing.

2. The #XRPLedger relies on security mechanisms that operate in a largely centralized way; it would be a grave mistake to include a token tied to what is largely privately controlled infrastructure. #BTC is the only token that should be considered. #strategicbitcoinreserve

Trump’s actions could embolden other folks out there to release and promote #memecoins and other crypto projects with similar tokenomics, anticipating the SEC would not pursue regs or enforcement against them, because doing so could put Atkins in Trump’s crosshairs when he expects loyalty.

I think this just goes to show where we probably need to be headed as a society.

As we grow more interconnected and lies and disinformation become ever more present, I think experts in all fields are likely going to have to start playing a bigger role in public education and advocacy.
