Which item should decorate the top of this fence post? Teapot or twisty glass thingie? Whichever I choose will have to be glued in place. #gardendecor #yeg #yeggardening

One of my orchids in bloom today. This is a generic phalaenopsis, but came from a friend so I didn’t know what colour it would be. Very pleased with it! #orchids #phalaenopsis

I made 15 jars of Seville orange marmalade today. It’s delicious and very beautiful. #marmalade

Veg bed layout planning for 2025. Maybe a bit early, but I needed the boost. It will get many revisions before it’s time to plant. #vegetablegardening #gardenplanning #yeggardening

My #DoNothingButReadDay book pile. The ratty thing on top is my ereader. I won’t get through all of these, but I will have a splendid day reading, drinking tea, eating leftovers, and, best of all, avoiding the Boxing Day Sales madness. #boxingday #donothingbutread

Amy has decided that spending a whole evening on my lap is kind of okay. I occasionally even hear faint purrs. This is unusual for her, but I like it :)

One of 2 red-breasted nuthatches that I counted for the #yegchristmasbirdcount in 2024. I also counted 1 downy woodpecker, 15 house finches, 11 house sparrows, 3 magpies, 1 northern flicker, 1 pigeon, and 2 blue jays. #yegbirds #yegwildlife

My second-ever etching, produced in a class at the SNAP Gallery. I’m very pleased with how it turned out.

We had a new backyard visitor caught on camera early this morning. Porcupine! #yegwildlife

I wondered why that insect (bee of some kind?) was sticking straight out, and then I looked closer and saw the goldenrod crab spider having it for lunch. #spiders #goldenrodcrabspider #yegwildlife

I took an Introduction to Screenprinting class and this is the final (only) product. I got a bit ambitious for my first major screenprint (7 colours, and registration was a PITA), but I did one simple screenprint last year, and have much experience of lino print. Not perfect, but I'm pleased.

-28C (feels like-40C) after walking to the library and back and shovelling some snow. At least it’s sunny! Edmonton winters are fun!

Today is Boxing Day, my "Do (Almost) Nothing But Read" Day. No shopping, almost no cooking. Just tea, snacks, cozy blankets, and books.

(No, I'm not going to read all of these today. Probably only one or two. This is just what I've got to choose from)

Our 2023 pumpkins. The two in front are mine; the one behind is by my son. My favourite part of Halloween!

Three new books today! Three favourite authors! @cjdwriter.bsky.social @seananmcguire.bsky.social and Jodi Taylor. Such richness!

I don’t know what kind of tomato this is. It was a volunteer plant that sprouted by the compost bin. Very pretty, what with the black and red colouring, and the flavour is both very tomato-y and quite tart. I’m going to save some seeds to try next year!

My garlic is planted! It still needs leaf mulch on top of the compost, but at least it’s in the ground. This year’s harvest was pretty good, and I hope for even better results in 2024.

Newt climbs the lilac. He is annoyed that I won’t let him use it to get up to the top of the fence and over into the neighbours’ yard.

I love this Canadian Shield rose. It has bloomed all summer like a champ.
