Former HS Spanish teacher, current SLA PhD candidate at UW Madison. Interested in language identity and ideologies in the classroom. When not chasing my kid, find me reading fantasy or stress baking.
There’s a church in Madison that specifically is tearing down their building and working with the city to build affordable housing; I think they’re going to use one part of it as a church/gatbering space still. It’s pretty cool!

It’s also a misunderstanding of UG (which I’m not a pronponent of coming from sociocultural theories of acquisition). It’s the universal capacity for language, not that there is something universal about all languages. Now I’m annoyed and want to read more from this guy.

I’m hoping it won’t amount to anything, but I this is a lot quicker than I thought anything would directly affect my day to day. Like my literal stipend.

I’ve also been thinking a LOT about sociolinguistic variation in how kids say words, plus multilingual kids. Early reading isn’t my research area at all but I admit I’m tempted to go down a different rabbit hole just based on what my kid is bringing home.

Sofia Segovia and Ruta Sepetys write wonderful historical fiction! If you like a little mystery as well, I’m enjoying Sherry Thomas’s lady Sherlock series immensely. I also just read The Seventh Veil of Salome and it was brilliant (Silvia Moreno Garcia)

Oh, this was me going back and adding my husband as the “big human” and not changing the rest of the sentence 😂 unfortunately no interesting semantic shifts going on!
