Can we skip the prequel part of the dystopia, where we find out why life sucks, and jump right to where a bunch of teenagers fix everything? That’d be great, thanks.

Me: I'm a math teacher.

Them: Oh, I hated math in school. Also, what's with this new way of teaching math? Why don't they just teach it the way we were taught?

All right, ten years into teaching, I’m just going to admit it: yes, sometimes math IS boring.

Sorry kids, I just can’t make exponential functions fun.

When students tell me this is their favorite class to be in, and students I don’t know peek in and say, “I wish I had this class,” I know I’ve done at least one thing right.

True story. When my son was 5, he wanted to be a teacher, like me. A year later, he said, “Mommy, I don’t want to be a teacher anymore. I don’t want to have to buy my own center supplies.” 😢
Teachers in the U.S. will spend an estimated $3.35 billion of their own money on classroom supplies in the 2024-25 school year.

The average teacher will spend $883.60.

NPE’s #AsleepAtTheWheel report investigated waste in the federal Charter Schools Program (CSP). Investigation found troubling pattern of waste of taxpayer dollars. Read & share report https://networkforpubliceducation.org/asleepatthewheel/ #EduSky #Education
Asleep at the Wheel: - Network For Public Education
We cannot afford to continue to pump hundreds of millions of dollars into a program whose stewards are clearly asleep at the wheel.

I enjoyed teaching ELA, but this reminds me why I really enjoy teaching math now.
