Man, big late-game endorsement from Eric Adams to help propel the Zohran Mamdani at the finish line!

Something beautiful and heartwarming, for anyone who is having a rough day and needs to see something good.
This is Jade. She just met the biggest dogs she's ever seen. But quickly learned they have the biggest hearts too. 13/10 for all (TT: catimtins.pscal)

Welcome to America, the “land of the free”, where the will of the voting masses is subjugated beneath the will of billionaires. 😒😔

SGA is the real MVP. Last night was approx. 43 min. of virtually nothing going right for OKC on offense, and (despite very strong defensive schemes against Haliburton and the Pacers) very little going their way on D. And then, in clutch time, SGA broke through to close out the game. Legendary stuff.

This Thunder team has no egos, no divas, no sense of entitlement. They’re unselfish. They hustle until the end: in tight games, down 30, up 30, doesn’t matter. They work harder on defense, as a unit, than any team in recent NBA history. They consistently make smart plays on offense. It’s beautiful.

Someone better call Jane Leeves and Valerie Bertinelli - right now, the Pacers are hot in Cleveland!

T-shirt idea:

“I adhere to ontological solipsism,
/so that you don’t have to!/”

Would sell at least one shirt, guaranteed. Maybe only one shirt, but definitely at least one.

I work for a small law firm (as the records clerk, not an attorney) - just texted one of my attorney friends at the firm:

“Found our next case: it’s a medical malpractice case, with damages currently estimated at $9.6 trillion and climbing”

…it’s almost like hiring top-ranking officials on the basis of slavish loyalty and devotion to a Cult of Personality, rather than on the basis of their qualifications for the jobs for which they’re being hired, leads to a bunch of dumb, easily-avoidable mistakes. Almost. 😅

Didn’t realize Taco Bueno kept its finger on the pulse of contemporary woodworking trends, but, apparently, teak is back!

My dogs always seem to be somewhere on the spectrum between perplexed and actively alarmed when they see me dancing around a bit as I’m playing some music and getting ready for bed… I know I’m not the world’s greatest dancer or anything, but still… rude.

I’m a couple of days late on this, but - if you possibly can, either in theaters (ideally), or via streaming - go see No Other Land. Outstanding exploration of the human implications of one of the most intractable, yet urgent, human rights matters of our day.

Beth Felker Jones’s re-interpretation of the 1934 Barmen Declaration - a document authored chiefly by theologian and pastor Karl Barth in response to the Nazi party’s takeover of the German state church - for American Christians in 2025.
Jesus, not nationalism
A new paraphrase of the Barmen declaration, in light of the current situation in the U.S.

It feels like a weird glitch in history that this statement isn’t a non-sequitur but rather a relevant, timely political view - one that some might actually view as controversial, even - but I am absolutely, unequivocally against Nazis, white supremacists, and the toxic ideologies that birth them.

SCOTUS upholding the ban on TikTok may be Gen Z & Gen Alpha’s loss, but it is also Kesha’s gain. #WhatWasOldIsNewAgain

Just texted this to a friend:

I like to think that, somewhere in the Venn diagram overlap between Samuel Johnson, Daniel Berrigan, and Dr. Frasier Crane, I occupy some tiny parcel of space, fighting against The Man, one verbose, über-annoyed email at a time. 🤣

This is your reminder - if you haven’t gone out to see “Conclave” yet, go do so. In theaters, if you can find it. It’s the best film of 2024 that faaaaar too many people have overlooked, particularly as awards season is upon us.

The scene in Ted Lasso where Ted is playing darts in the pub is a weird 2020s remake of the scene in Frasier when Daphne bails out Frasier and Niles in a dive bar by winning a game of pool. Time is obviously a flat circle.

Human psychology is fascinating! There is actually a name for that phenomenon where you sometimes misremember some specific detail about a person, place, event, etc., inserting an incorrect detail in its place. Don’t believe me? Go look up the “Desmond Tutu Effect” and prepare to be amazed!

Hugh Jackman's good friend Juan called him up one day, to ask him if he knew the country code for placing phone calls to the nation of Barbados.

Jackman simply replied, "246, oh Juan!"

Working in a law firm (NB: records clerk, not an attorney), you see some odd abbreviation choices, but I was unprepared for “Young Men’s Christian Ass” as a (slight) abbreviation of the full name for the YMCA. Definitely got a double-take out of me.
