Looking forward to delivering a masterclass workshop on "Theorizing Asian Television Dramas" to junior scholars from across the Philippines at De La Salle University tomorrow. My particular contribution emerges from my ethnographic investigation of Korean and Japanese media fandom in the Philippines, exploring how fantasies of Koreanness and Japaneseness are shaping the expression of romance in Philippine contemporary pop culture

Together with wonderful colleagues in Manila, next year I'll be drawing on my ethnography of Philippine media to put together a collection of essays on "kilig", the Philippine affective cultural response that shapes knowledge and experiences of romance 💖🇵🇭

The era of slave contracts in the #Kpop industry never ended, it just transformed. Labor law needs to be revised to support idols as workers (who should absolutely unionise), but the current SK government is mostly uninterested in broadening human rights legislation right now
