Oh you're right, that is beautiful. Has the same feel as the California Republic flag while staying original to Maine. I could envision it on someone's wall behind their couch lol

Here are all 10 for reference. I think the rising sun and the butterfly ones are the most interesting, but not my favorites. The one with the Lincoln and Illinois silhouettes is an eyesore because you see the white space first. The big "I" one is giving Texas. Others are boring

My tinfoil hat theory about the Illinois state flag competition is that the state picked nine terrible designs so that the most boring option (the same bald eagle flag with blue and red bars added) would be the most palatable

Maybe a hot take but I kind of love the new Wicker Park Barnes & Noble. Much better use of a historic building than the Walgreen's, decent selection of books, great place to kill time, etc.

Meena nails it here. So many of my talented friends and peers have contemplated leaving journalism not because of the nature of the work itself but because of how broken this industry is.

According to organizers, the university president and provost are currently in Stuart Hall for a Council of the Faculty Senate meeting. The protestors here are waiting to meet them when they leave the building

I'm outside Stuart Hall at the University of Chicago, where about 100 faculty, staff and alums are protesting the university for not implementing the Gaza Scholars at Risk program promised by Provost Katherine Baicker six months ago as part of negotiations over the student encampment.
