yeah i wrote about this too recently after witnessing it. and i am still suspect of their giving guests floor passes as opposed to guest passes, that never happens at conventions and i do not understand why the ward 4 organizers made this choice and wonder it is shady

opening day at lito’s burritos minneapolis location is the hottest nightclub. ran into aisha chugthai. and being on bryant ave, they’re going to need to a lot more bike parking than 4 spots

Peavey Plaza – Seasonal Standalone Public Restroom
Completed as part of a capital improvement project renovating the Peavey Plaza in 2019, the seasonal
standalone public restroom trailer is a two-restroom trailer that was specially designed to sit at the
corner of 12th Street and Nicollet Avenue. DID had previously determined the need for more downtown
restrooms and completed a pilot of temporary porta potties downtown, including one at Peavey Plaza.
When the larger capital improvement project to rehabilitate Peavey Plaza initiated, Public Works staff
said they knew that location worked well for a restroom because of DID’s work. In addition, there was
funding from the state and private partners for the project. Because of this very unique situation, they
were able to incorporate the restroom into the capital improvement project.
When Public Works reviewed off-the-shelf units to fit the location, they were cost prohibitive, the wrong
size, etc. Instead, the City built a restroom trailer specific to that location, aligning it with the utility
hookups in the Peavey Plaza mechanical room underneath the sidewalk.
Though the City constructed and owns the trailer, it was originally managed by Green Minneapolis, who
hired the Downtown Improvement District (DID) for maintenance. After Green Minneapolis left the
contract, DID contracted with the City to operate and maintain the Peavey site, including programs, the
fountain, greenery, and the restroom trailer, etc.
DID staff said the first question they get asked every year, even before the fountains turn on, is “when do
the restrooms open?” The trailer averages 70-110 uses a day in nice weather. If there is an event nearby,
usage increases.
Public Works staff described Peavey Plaza as a very unique opportunity, one that has not occurred since.
Costs
• Initial cost to build and install the trailer: $79,000
• Faucets usually need to be replaced once a year due to routine wear and tear, costing around
$400 in material and labor.…

Ongoing challenges
DID staff said they have experienced people pulling the soap dispensers off the wall, as well as taking the
toilet paper. Thankfully, after some trial and error, they have found toilet paper holders which are fairly
effective at preventing people from taking the rolls of toilet paper.
They occasionally also experience people going in and attempting to take a full bath, but the
Ambassadors watch for that type of activity. They also know drug use occurs within the restroom. DID
staff said if someone is in the restroom for longer than 10 minutes, the Ambassadors knock on the door
once; if no response they knock again, and if there is still no response, they will unlock the door to
ensure no one has passed out. Though rare, if they see two individuals go into the same restroom, the
ambassadors try to intervene sooner.
About once a week the Ambassadors have an issue getting someone out of the restroom. However,
situations rarely escalate beyond the Ambassadors, who are quite successful at getting people to move
along. In the 2025 season, they only had one incident where Emergency Medical Services were called
due to an overdose in the restroom.
DID staff said the key to the restroom’s success is the Ambassador staffing, “You need someone to keep
an eye out. If not, people would just go in there, lock it, and claim it as their own.” Public Works staff
agreed that the restroom needs to be monitored to keep it safe and usable.
According to DID staff, the downside of the Peavey Plaza restroom trailer is it is seasonal. This is because
the mechanical room where the pipes are located is not insulated and would be suspectable to freezing.

richard carlbom was asked about cyndy martin remaining on the CRBC and basically said “due process exists in this country.”

i don’t think there is any dispute cyndy martin hit and killed that teenager with her car and didn’t call 911 until the next morning, regardless of the criminal trial

statements from jamison whiting on seeing trump as the biggest threat facing the city, and elizabeth shaffer mentioning stakeholder input (2/2)

Following one of the city’s most contentious election cycles in recent memory, all four newly
elected council members agree it's time for a culture shift at City Hall.
“The biggest threat facing this city is the Trump Administration, not our fellow council
colleagues and constituents,” said Whiting, “Elizabeth, Pearll, Soren, and I do not, and will not,
agree on every issue, but we commit to work across our differences, and those of our colleagues,
compassionately, to make Minneapolis a beacon of effective, responsible, Democratic
governance.”
All four candidates ran as Democrats and will represent diverse neighborhoods in Minneapolis.
Warren will represent portions of North Minneapolis, including Harrison, Jordan, and North
Loop. Shaffer will represent Western Minneapolis and portions of Downtown Minneapolis,
including Loring Park, Bryn Mawr, and Lowry Hill. Stevenson will represent South Central
Minneapolis, including the neighborhoods of Bryant, Lyndale, and Kingfield. Whiting will
represent portions of South Minneapolis, including Hale, Page, and Diamond Lake.
These geographies comprise different constituencies, diverse electorates, and voters who
supported different mayoral candidates. “Each of us will proudly represent the needs and values
of our residents,” stressed Warren, “but we promise to do so as allies, not opponents. That is how
we find the best solutions for North Minneapolis, to move us forward with sustainability for our
entire city.”

All four incoming council members emphasize that they will evaluate every policy on its merits,
guided by research, staff and stakeholder input, and community needs, not by those who propose
it. “We will seek to always lead by example in a way that promotes an optimistic vision for our
city,” notes Stevenson, “a vision that is united in our areas of broad agreement across the city
like the need for more homes, better public safety, addressing climate change, and seeing that
every resident in our city is protected and treated with respect.”
“I believe Minneapolis residents want their elected officials to work together in a productive way
to get things done for our city," said Shaffer. "To build this collaboration, we must assume the
best intent of all stakeholders and listen to different perspectives objectively and with respect.
Only then can we overcome the divisions of recent years to build a safer, kinder, and stronger
Minneapolis."
All four council members-elect express optimism as they head into the next four years.
